Darien H.S. students return to class after bomb threat leads to evacuation

DARIEN - Darien High School students are back in class after being evacuated Thursday morning.
Police say a very "specific" bomb threat was left on the school's answering machine.

According to police, students were evacuated just before 8:30 after someone heard the message. Officers say a male voice stated that bombs had been placed both inside and outside the school.

Police, fire, and EMS personnel responded as bomb-sniffing dogs did a sweep inside the building. Officials say nothing was found.

That's where I teach...we were out on the football field for 3 hours today. THe kids behaved so well. Granted, they were not to happy about having to go back to classes.

I got some really bad sunburn, a little dehydration, and probably some sunpoisioning...and the school nurse, forgot her emergency kit in the school....moron....

Today was an interesting day....

That's a good policy. Make the students return to class once the threat is cleared. I would even recommend extending the day to make up for lost class time. Dismissing them for the day only plays into the hands of the person making the threat. Kids love to brag about stuff like this. If I found out someone in my school made me stay late, miss an after school activity or sport and screwed up my day, I'd make sure they'd think twice about doing it again.

Dane - You're right. When I was in high school we had a bomb threat almost monthly my senior year...until they made us return to classes....it suddenly stopped.

This threat was very specific though, compared to what I had in high school...that was the only weird part.

Regardless of the length of time consumed by the threat...add one calender day to the school year for each event...that will stop the threats!

Haha, the school can't have anymore days. The building is to be demolished on June 10th. The last day of school, and graduation, now are June 9th. They're back as far as they can get!
