Police in Pittsfield, Mass. say a man wanted in connection with a recent assault in the Berkshires may be headed to Rochester.

Pittsfield Police Sgt. Matt Hill today said Rodney Sparrow, 40, is considered armed and dangerous. Sparrow, who is originally from Rochester, was living with his girlfriend in the Berkshires.

Sparrow is accused of threatening several people with a semi-automatic handgun while in Pittsfield on Friday morning, Hill said. Sparrow apparently knew the people he allegedly threatened.

Police officers surrounded the perimeter of the fight, but Sparrow escaped. Officers described Sparrow as a black male, who stand at 6 feet, 1 inch and weighs approximately 230 pounds.

Hill added that Sparrow’s younger brother was Cory Sparrow, 37, of Rochester who was killed in a drive-by shooting on Aug. 30 on Ellicott St. about 12:30 p.m. Cory Sparrow was released from prison in January after serving 20 years for second-degree murder in a 1988 homicide in a drug house.

Rodney Sparrow also spent time in state prison for three separate felony convictions, all out of Monroe County, according to the state Department of Correctional Services. Most recently, he was released in April after serving more than four years for third-degree attempted criminal sale of a controlled substance.

He also served 2 ½ years, from April 1998 to November 2000, for first-degree attempted sexual abuse. Before that, Rodney Sparrow served more than nine years, from August 1987 to December 1996, for first-degree assault, according to state records.

Anyone with information on Rodney Sparrows’ whereabouts is asked to call the Pittsfield Police
