Performs both highly specialized and general duty police work in the protection of life and property through the enforcement of laws and ordinances. Work involves responsibility for the protection of life and property, prevention of crime, investigation of crime, apprehension of criminals, direction of vehicular and pedestrian traffic, and the general enforcement of federal, state, and municipal laws and ordinances. Work is performed in accordance with applicable statutory law, case law, accreditation standards, and department policy. Work involves an element of personal danger and, as a majority of the work is performed without the presence of a supervisor, employees must be able to make decisions and act independently without direct supervision. Employees must exercise discretion and professional judgment when making enforcement decisions, during use of force situations and in meeting emergencies. Assignments and special instructions are received from superior officers, who review work methods and results through personal observations, inspections, reports and discussions.

Associate Degree (or 60 semester hours of college credit) with a GPA of 2.0 or better from an accredited college or university validated by transcripts.

ND Peace Officer License - ability to acquire within one year.

Firearms Certification course - must successfully complete within one year.

Must possess valid ND Drivers License.

Must participate in physical fitness program to meet established agility and fitness requirements.

Employment Type: Full-Time Regular

Hours per Week: 40 hours per Week

Salary/Wages: $2993.08 to $4489.66 / Month

How to Apply:
Candidates must successfully pass the testing requirement prior to applications being forwarded for consideration. Testing information is available by calling 328-5046 (JSND) or 221-6891 (City of Bismarck).

After testing requirement is fulfilled, submit credentials (including cover letter, resume, and college transcripts) and City of Bismarck Job Application at Job Service North Dakota.

Testing is scheduled for January 31, 2005; February 28, 2005; March 28, 2005; April 25, 2005; May 23, 2005; June 27, 2005; July 25, 2005; August 29, 2005; September 26, 2005; October 31, 2005; and November 28, 2005 from 6-9 p.m. at Bismarck Job Service North Dakota. No test will be scheduled for December 2005.

Other testing dates are yet to be determined.
