H50 or who or what eva you are. You obv never experianced the beautiful City of Boston and its fine outstanding members of the community. I don't know if you have ever been to Brookline Ave or other parts of Mission Hill/ Roxbury, but that's a tuff area. No cop shouldbe unarmed espacially if you have qualified officers. The officers from the B.I are getting it stuck in their back side and you make a dumb ass comment to the brother blue. :-k I don't understand how you can make that statment? Just rember Danny Dirt Bag doesn't read patches he just looks at the shiny badge. B.I.P.D keep your heads up and I'll c-ya around.--- your neighbor W.P.D

There is no reason they should have guns. They are a private security force working for a private hospital. They used to have Longwood Security but the security guards they hired were robbing them blind. There are enough police officers out there, especially in that area ,that there is no need for a private outfit there. They should check doors, park cars, change a tire and provide basic security duties. They are not armed because the hospital doesn't want them armed. I heard it's because the insurance would be skyrocketing in price. And for all the people that took these jobs and didn't do some research, shame on you, now you're stuck chcking doors, hoping for a gun someday, i'm sure most guys there have their own. As far as NEMC and some other hospitals, just remember that you were hired to be security officers, stop fronting by trying to make it into a police outfit. You want to be a cop, go join a police department, LAPD is always hiring. NEMC , I am sure was really excited that their secutiy guards made some arrest,....PLEAZE, you mean Boston PD made the arrest. Hospital Officers should make sandwiches for patients, bring up IV bags to the floors, clean up bed pans, check a door, park a car, eat in the kitchen at night and sleep. Leave the POPO work to the real COPS.

P.S. They also don't need Crown Vics!!! This is better!

LOMAC,

Apparently you are a disgruntled PO...or failed to become one. Obviously you judge from the outside and never worked in a inner-city hospital. We do alot more than check doors... I've never cleaned a bed pan, nor have I ever delivered an IV bag. What do we do? We fight with psyche patients, drunks, gang bangers, and thieves... and yes, we chase them too. We also deal with domestics and robberies. We lock-up more than just a "few" people - sometimes more than many small or midsized towns.. No, Boston PD is NOT reliable enough to say there are "enough cops in the area"- they are always short staffed or "tied up". Response time is horrible because of that. We often have more guys on than they do. We handle all our own arrests and transports and have also ASSISTED Boston a few times as well. I get paid more than most PO's get paid and my Bennie's are MUCH better - love the 6 weeks of vacation too. Do you get that? Good perks too...

Usually it's only one or two morons on the Board of Trustees that keeps a Hospital from being armed. A gun would be nice, but I, like many others I work with, have worked for (or are working for) a "Police Department" and carried a gun. No biggie. Like many Campus Police Departments we are unarmed... nothing new in Mass.. In MOST Boston Hospitals they are "Officers" not "Guards"... a Guard will just watch someone beat the piss out of you THEN call 911. Most Hospital Police/Security dept's are Proprietary, not contract. Most Boston Hospital Police/Security Officers will deal with more physical confrontations in a year than most "Police Officers" will in their entire careers.

People Eating in the kitchen or sleeping get fired. On a PD would they get fired? Nope, they would cry foul to their union... Hospital Officers have more accountability, responsibility and liability than "Police Officers".

We ( I can't speak for all Hospitals) have great relationships with BPD, BFD, Muni's, State, Fed's and other local PD's. Like all dept. there a few arrogant fu*$s that we don't like and they don't like us. Who cares, I hope they like waiting in the waiting room for 6 hours.... "Oh, My friend Officer Smith, right this way we'll get your prisoner in and out in a jiffy"... "...don't worry about the other Officer, he's on our shit list, want some DD coffee?"

Oh yeah, It's actually against policy to change a tire... too much liability..i.e. the tire falls off on their way home..oops... But if you're driving, I'll more than gladly change your tire

Nothing like sparking me up.... Do you always like busting chops?

I don't often reply much...but I have 2 things that I'd like to bring up..First off I keep hearing references to the term "REAL"..well I don't know about fellow officers that work for cities and towns..but I put on a uniform.. wear a badge that says police...have gone to and will be going to another police academy.. have to write reports..put up with BS from the public..students.. bosses..etc...work the same crazy hours..ot..details etc..get angry looks from the public while on patrol in a marked police cruiser...you get the point.. so my questions is..What's Real????...What's a real Cop?..Arrests More calls etc..hey I'd like to make more arrests and do more calls..talk to my boss...Would I like to be on a pro-active well funded city dept..Yes..and I would just about give my left nut ..to do so and..maybe sometime and the not so distanct future I will..Now that brings me to my next point..."TAKE THE TEST"...Alot of us have taken tests..attended interviews etc..however some of us..due to budges..laterals ..Politics..layoffs... aren't on yet..don't worry we will be..it's a matter of where and when...I've contributed more than my share of money and time to civil circus and a few other places as well...just getting a little tired of hearing TAKE THE TEST...As far as the Hospital Security goes..Hey these folks work their asses off.and see a lot of human misery and put up with a lot of BS..I'm sure this rivals or exceedes what some town pd's deal with on a daily basis..I worked on a ambulance for 6 years and saw first hand what they have to put up with..I think that they should be the one's to decide what they need to do their jobs...How many of us remember our ABC"S..Ambulance before cruiser..and where does the ambulance take these nice people boys and girls?...That's right the hospital...There are plenty of [email protected]@Holes to go around so let's stop worrying about what this or that dept needs or should or shouldn't be doing..and who's real and who's not....Let's all be safe out there....Off my Soap Box.

Hey LOMAC,

:finger2:

you should be ashamed of yourself.......

as for CJM, RPD, LUAP, AND SGT JACK.......

:punk:
YOU ROCK !!!!!!!
thanks for the support.

I used to have your same mentality LOMAC, then i grew UP!. see i have not been a cop for a long time...only 7 short years. the first 4 years was spent with LAPD, 3 patrol divisions, a CRASH unit and a Traffic Bureau.

I also worked for a freight railroad police department for 2 years where i spent many a night banging boxcars ALONE in the middle of lawrence.

being unarmed on a job that was advertised as an armed position makes me quite angry, and when i read comments from a BOOT such as yourself
makes me even more angry. You must be bum buddies with h50. between the 2 of you i think you share the same brain cell!

i said it before, and i'll say it again....

dont be so quick to judge another agency and it's QUALIFIED officers.

we have a WIDE array of expierence.... NYPD, LAPD, BOSTON PD, BROOKLINE PD, 2 FROM MGH, WELLESLEY PD, BRIDGEWATER STATE.

NUFF SAID......

THIS TOPIC SHOULD BE ENDED!

Stop fronting, here you go again, little guards!!

we have a WIDE array of expierence.... NYPD, LAPD, BOSTON PD, BROOKLINE PD, 2 FROM MGH, WELLESLEY PD, BRIDGEWATER STATE.
2 from MGH = SECURITY GUARDS
BRIDGEWATER STATE = Youngest LT (20 something YO) left to come there, big mistake
WELLESLEY PD = RETIRED QUITE A WHILE AGO
RPD=Left B&M PD because he couldn't hack it there...Would love to go back
Oh yeah, I 've been a cop for quite a while and I don't believe in another security agency wanna be cops patrolling the streets that already have enough officers. Stick to the inside patrols. Oh yeah, I go through there quite a bit and never see any of the BIDMCPD officers on the streets, did BPD say something? They did to LONGWOOD SECURITY and that is all BIDMC will be, an INHOUSE LONGWOOD. Good luck and stop trying to rationalize amd justify your shortcomings. :FM:

This is a great site but the only thing I don't understand is why some people feel the need to put down other Dept's, Officers, etc... We are all Police Officers no matter if you are a townie, state, college, or in this case hospital. No matter where you work were all LEO's, what makes any of YOU, any better then your BROTHERS? We all wear blue and you need to start showing respect and support for your Brothers instead of BASHING them. For all you Hospital and College Cops out there that do the same job as any other PO out there but with less tools and Backing of your hire up's you have my respect.

Every One Stay Safe.
