Benefit for cancer-stricken police officer
The Police Department has organized a comedy night benefit for Officer John Slaney, who was diagnosed with cancer a year ago. Currently facing a long and difficult recovery in the Lahey Clinic, the 37-year-old Slaney is the father of four young daughters.

On Sunday, Nov. 13 celebrities Tony V. of "Late Night with Conan O'Brien," "Seinfeld" and "Boston Common," Frank Santorelli of "The Sopranos," Greg Rodregues and singer/entertainer Shannon Cronin will descend upon Memorial Hall to take part in the fund-raiser. Officer John Ross will DJ the event, which will offer food, music, a cash bar, a silent auction and raffles.

Tickets are $25 and available at the Melrose Police Headquarters, 56 West Foster St., Macauley's House of Vacuum Cleaners, 102 Tremont St., CF PrintGraphics, Inc., 102 Tremont St. and by mail at Melrose Police Headquarters, 56 West Foster St., Melrose, MA 02176. Children under 12 are free, and tables are available for 10 people. Checks should be made out to the Slaney Fund.
Donations can also be made at Massbank Melrose.
