I grew up in Bellingham. They have a pretty good department.Half the guys on the force I went to High School with. They got a new police station. They have a K-9 unit and have officers on MetroStar Tactical team. They have around 35 full time officers. They are pretty busy for a small town of 16,000,due to numerous shopping/business entities in town and the proximity of the larger towns of Milford and Franklin as well as Woonsocket,RI to the south.

DOD,
Unfortunately I cannot comment on the inner workings of the department.I friend of mine got hired FT after years of being PT.I can tell you most officers that are hired are from the town..."townies".Now what can you tell me about the DOD Police?I'm an officer with the state DOC now.

USMC,

Thanks for the info. DOD its a good job, were Federal Police Officers, the training is good, and the pay is decent. it's not the best Government Agency(Police Officers) but its a good start to get into the Federal system and move to a bigger and better Agency like the FBI, U.S. Marshals, etc.. If you want to know more PM me.

USMC--DoD's a pretty good gig. I agree with DODK911. We've got our issues as any agency, but it's a good foot in the federal system door. Keep your eye on the Air Force Personel site as well. We'll be hiring again here at Westover. I would recommend however a DoD position with nthe Army or Navy. They take better care of their cops than the AF. Did I say that outloud. :)

Bellingham got a new station? That is BS!

They got an old fire house converted to a dump PD in 1989.....if you want to call that new.

They are not hiring anytime soon due to "level funding" and they haven't hired any cops since 2002.

I know there not hiring any time soon! trust me I know. I have been number 1 on the list since then. I spoke to a detective there about a month ago and he said that they are 5 people down right now, and the selectman gave them the OK to hire in fiscal year 2007, but he said they are in fiscal year 2006 right now so hopefully it will only be a year or so. Trust me I'm waiting for them to hire. I was born and raised in the Ham and my Grandfather retired as Chief of Police from there so I have some roots here as well.

Ummm, not quite. I work for a municipal law enforcement agency in Norfolk County. I wouldn't lower myself to a "gurd." ;)
You work for a municipal law enforcement agency... as what? A lot of police officers started off working security... some with families moonlight as security.

Question, is that who I think it is in your avitar? If so, why all the antiliberal comments? (By the way, I am a proudly registered Republican and welcome all the antiwhine comments)

That doesn't pull any weight with me. Why were you not hired the first time around?
Commissioner,

What doesnt pull any weight with you? That I said my grandfather retired from there? I wasn't saying it as if I thought it would get me hired, I was using it in the means to say I have roots in the department and that is why even after being on the list for so long, thats why I'm still waiting and hoping to get on. I haven't been hired or skipped since being in the number one spot, they just have not hired in the last 3-4 years.
