DELHI, ILL- A routine tavern check left Jersey County sheriff's deputies seeing double when they found the bartender at the Cabin Tavern in Delhi tending bar in the nude Thursday evening.
Jersey County State's Attorney Ben Goetten said sheriff deputies were doing a routine check on the Cabin Tavern, located at 29150 Cabin Lane, at 4:49 p.m. Thursday when they walked in and allegedly found bartender Janet Brannon, 33, of East Alton, tending bar in the buff.
Because Brannon was the only employee in the establishment, and the owners were out of town, authorities closed the tavern down.
Brannon was arrested on an outstanding Jerseyville warrant for failure to appear in court and taken to the Jersey County Sheriff's Department. She was charged with a criminal misdemeanor charge of public indecency. Bond was set at $8,000.
The charge alleges Brannon knowingly exposed her body with the intent to arouse or to satisfy the sexual desires of others by bartending nude at her place of employment.
"In addition to the charges against the bartender, the county will also seek charges against the owners of the Cabin Tavern," Goetten said. "The tavern violated a county ordinance stating no nudity, partial nudity or rude behavior is allowed in establishments and in establishments that serve liquor. The business is subject to a fine and could have their liquor license revoked."
