MARTIN GAVINRobbery in Attleboro Police interview a possible witness inside the Getty gas station on Newport Avenue shortly after a reported robbery Tuesday night.
ATTLEBORO - An armed robber wouldn't take no for an answer Tuesday night.
The robber pulled a gun at a Citgo gas station on South Avenue, but fled without any cash, then moments later hit a Getty station on Newport Avenue in South Attleboro, where he did drive away with some money.
And police said the bandit apparently was driving a stolen black Nissan from Providence.
At the Citgo station, known as Pedro's Service Station, the man showed a handgun about 7:50 p.m., but the robbery didn't go as planned.
"The clerk at the first one refused to give him any money," police Detective Richard Campion said.
Then, shortly after 8 p.m. at the Getty, a similar suspect was reported to have again shown a handgun and did escape with an undetermined amount of cash.
No customers were in either gas station during the robberies, and both were closed for the night, Campion said.
The suspect was described as a white man about 6 feet tall.
Detectives were viewing surveillance camera tape from the Getty late Tuesday night to get a better description, Campion said.
The Citgo at 21 South Ave. is at the intersection of Anderson Avenue. The Getty, formerly known as Mutual Gas, is located at 947 Newport Ave., a short distance from Cardi's Furniture.
Both gas stations are near ramps to Interstate 95.
The Getty station was also robbed about two months ago.
