Job Description Job Title: Asst Dir Public Safety - Night Lieutenant Job ID: Job Level: 500674 D FLSA: Exempt Location: Brandeis - Waltham Campus Full/Part Time: Full-Time Regular/Temporary: Regular Return to Previous Page Responsibilities General Function: To direct and manage the Public Safety Communication Center the Patrol Division and to provide administrative support to the Director of Public Safety. The mission of the Department shall be to protect life and property and to foster a safe and peaceful environment for teaching, research and residents, with special emphasis on Public Safety education and crime prevention.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Direct and supervise the Public Safety Department including uniformed officers, parking monitors and office support staff.

2. Determine equitable schedules for officers. Maintain all personnel records including sick, personal and vacation time and overtime.

3. Organize, administer and review general security and safety programs on campus, including active participation in the Personal Safety committee and other committees as needed.

4. Establish, implement and promote programs of crime prevention and other educational programs designed to protect and preserve the teaching and research environment.

5. Develop and maintain effective communications with all members of the Brandeis Community, with special emphasis on Students and the Student Life professional staff.

6. Develop and monitor a service ¿ oriented Law Enforcement program on campus consistent with the teaching and research objectives of the university.

7. Develop and maintain liaisons with appropriate local, state and federal Law Enforcement agencies and with appropriate professional organizations in the areas of campus security and safety.

8. Develop strong training programs both on and off campus for Campus Police: share training and educational opportunities with other members of the community when appropriate.

9. Administer and enforce traffic and parking programs for both normal and special campus activities.

10. Maintain appropriate records, including duty and incident reports.

11. Report emergency conditions or incidents to the Director of Public Safety, Vice President of Campus Operations and other appropriate university officers.

12. Work with Department personnel during emergencies involving the Crisis Management plan.

13. Ensure compliance with union contract and participate in contract negotiations.

14. Assist Director of Public Safety with department budget.

15. Review and update University Police Policies and Procedural Manual as needed. Qualifications 1. B. A. or B.S. Degree. Advanced studies in safety related field desirable.

2. Five (5) to ten (10) years supervisory experience in security/safety and Law Enforcement, with strong preference given to college or university experience.

3. Proven administrative and leadership skills as well as strong communication and written skills.

4. Ability to exercise good judgment, sensitivity to individual needs and perceptions and ability to act with tact and diplomacy.

5. Experience in developing training programs.

6. Successful completion of pre-employment medical/physical as required by the university, inclusive of drug and alcohol testing with no restrictions.

7. Successful completion of the pre ¿ employment psychological examination, as determined by a qualified independent psychologist.

8. Successful completion of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Special State Police Academy or equivalent training academy.

9. Valid Massachusetts vehicle operator¿s license.

10. Valid certification documentation for First Responder First Aid course and CPR.

11. Successful completion and passing of criminal background and driver history check.

12. Must be able to obtain and retain a Massachusetts Class A license to carry a firearm.

13. Must be able to receive and retain Special Police Officer authority in accordance with Mass. General Law Chapter 22C, Section 63.
