SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A woman who was assaulted in Springfield Wednesday morning is in critical condition.
Police Captain Eugene Dexheimer told 22News a female victim crawled into the Citgo gas station at 61 Locust Street around 1:20 Wednesday morning.
Dexheimer said the victim was beaten with a blunt object so severely around her head and neck she was unable to speak. She was rushed to Baystate Medical Center.
Springfield Police Captain Robert McFarlin said the woman was attacked in a vacant building at 76 Mill Street, and after the attack made her way to the gas station. This attack may be connected with a similar incident this weekend in which another woman was beaten and sexually assaulted.
No arrests have been made yet, and police are searching for suspects. Anyone who has any information is asked to call Springfield police at (413) 787-6355.
