Police release sketch of assault suspect

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - 22News has new information about the woman found brutally beaten in Springfield on Wednesday.

Sergeant John Delaney of the Springfield Police Department told 22News that the 40-year-old victim entered a car occupied by two black males. She was brought to a vacant 2nd floor apartment at 76 Mill Street and severely beaten with a 2 by 4.

She was able to crawl to a nearby gas station, but suffered severe trauma and blood loss and is now in a coma at Baystate Medical Center.

Sgt. Delaney says police are investigating whether the attack is connected to another rape and assault at the same location. The first victim recovered from her injuries and is cooperating with police. Investigators believe the same men committed both crimes.

Springfield police have just released a composite sketch of a suspect in these crimes. He's described as a dark skinned black man about 5' 7'' to 5' 9'' tall with a chunky build. He's in his late 30's with a "fat" fold on the back of his neck. He also has very little hair.
Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call the Springfield Detective Bureau at 787-6355
