ASHBY -- An Ashburnham woman is facing breaking and entering charges after a Fort Hill Road family allegedly found her sitting in their car with their possessions in the front seat, according to Ashby Police Chief Paul Lundin.
Jessica Goguen, 40, of 15 Westminster St., Ashburnham, is charged with breaking and entering into a house and a motor vehicle, and larceny of more than $250, Lundin said Wednesday.
The Fort Hill Road family came home from an overnight trip Sunday night to find Goguen in their other car with the engine running, Lundin said.
A member of the family confronted Goguen and she got out of the car and took off on foot, Lundin said.
The family found items they said were from their home in the front passenger seat of the car Goguen was sitting in, Lundin said.
Police Officer Brian Vautour spotted Goguen on Hosmer Road and found she had another item from the house.
Fort Hill Road is a remote area of town bordering the state forest, Lundin said.
"I'm not quite sure what she was doing in that area," Lundin said.
Lundin does not believe Goguen went to the area to break into any cars or homes, but he is still not sure what she was doing.
"She didn't really give us a straight answer," Lundin said.
Ashby has seen several car break-ins during the past two months. Lundin said at least seven of those crimes are connected, though he does not believe Goguen is behind those other crimes. "The method of operation is different," Lundin said.
Goguen was released on personal recognizance bail Monday after her arraignment in Ayer District Court, Lundin said.
