FRAMINGHAM (WBZ) ― The search for a man believed to be armed with a weapon in Framingham has ended.
The search for Kevin Donovan prompted the Walsh Middle School, King School, Hemingway Elementary School, and the Charlotte A. Dunning Elementary School to be put in lockdown.
Donovan was arrested just after 5 p.m. Wednesday not far from where he first fled his car on foot. Police said he had a problem with alcohol and had made threats to his own life. He was armed with two knives when he was arrested. Police said they also found handcuffs in his pocket.
No students were injured, and they were making their way home and were being picked up by their parents, police said.
Police said Donovan was taken to Metrowest Medical Center to be evaluated.
Before the arrest, officials were conducting an orderly release of the students at each school. Children were being escorted onto their buses and walkers were being picked up.
Earlier, police had asked Framingham residents to stay inside their homes.
There were about 30 police officers involved in the search.
Donovan will be charged with carrying a dangerous weapon and resisting arrest.
