A Framingham man was arrested yesterday, charged with stabbing another man in the chest after he tried to stop an assault on his friend's son earlier this month.
Marvette Joyner, 20, was ordered held on $500 bail after his Framingham District Court arraignment yesterday.
Joyner was arrested at 2:23 a.m. at MetroWest Medical Center in Framingham on a warrant charging him with the Aug. 9 assault, Deputy Police Chief Craig Davis said.
It is unknown why Joyner was at the hospital.
A 15-year-old boy was walking home on Frederick Street when he saw Joyner and two other men harassing his sister and her female friends, police said.
"He said 'Stop bothering my sister,' and that's when he was beaten. That's all he remembers," Davis said.
Carlos Gomez, 38, of Frederick St., was standing on his front porch nearby when he saw the alleged attack. The victim was his friend's son, so he tried to step in to stop the beating.
"He punched (Joyner) who punch his friend's son," said Davis. "The other two men jumped in. He gets punched and kicked and knocked to the ground. He got up, and that's when he realized he was stabbed."
Gomez was stabbed near his left armpit and was taken to MetroWest Medical Center in Framingham to be treated.
The three men left, but one witness got the vehicle's license number, and one of the girls who was being harassed knew the men, Davis said.
Joyner, of 31 Danforth Court, was charged with armed assault with intent to murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and assault and battery.
If Joyner does not post bail, he will be held at the Middlesex Jail in Cambridge until his pretrial conference on Sept. 17.
