Detroit Police officers shot and killed a 35-year old man around 3:40 a.m. while riding his bicycle in the area of Appoline and W. Buena Vista on the city’s west side.

According to the police report, officers responded to a complaint of a man riding a bike with a gun in his backpack. As they arrived on the scene and approached the man, the report said, he pulled out a gun and pointed it at them. Officers shot and killed him.

Family members have publicly identified the victim as 35-year-old Robert Hill and have questioned the police version of the shooting, alleging that the suspect may have been shot from behind.

Detroit Police spokesman James Tate confirmed that police fired multiple shots and said that a handgun was recovered at the scene, but that the incident is still under investigation.

A spokesman for the Wayne County Medical Examiner’s office said an autopsy on the victim had not been completed and no information would be available until perhaps this afternoon.

It was the second fatal shooting involving Detroit Police this week. On Monday, a man wanted in a suspected drive-by shooting and carjacking was shot near Davidson and Linwood after police said he pointed a gun at officers.

Highly possible if he just turned while still seated on the bike. Get a grip folks. Pull a gun on a cop and prepare to get shot. No ifs, ands or buts!

Glad the cops are okay. This could have ended very drastically if the maggott had waited a little longer for the officers to get closer.
