A robbery suspect was shot by DPS officers near 16th Street and University in Phoenix.
Three squads of DPS officer were preparing for motorcycle training at their station when someone came up to them and said a nearby store was being robbed.
Officers were met by an armed man leaving the store, says DPS Lt. James Wariner. "They confronted an individual male suspect leaving the store with the weapon. Preliminarily I'm being told he was asked to drop the weapon."
"At some point in time, our officers felt threatened. At least I'm aware of one shot being fired striking the suspect."
He says that suspect is now in the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Wariner believes only one officer fired a shot.
No officers were hurt.
