I have just gotten a letter from the CAO stating the review board has denied my candidacy for very vague reasons, and the majority not close to being the legitimate. I know that "possibly" records might have gotten crossed being why my driving record is being considered poor when I have only one infraction on it from 2000 and that was a seltbelt violation, at least according to the record the RMV gave me.

They are also considering trouble I was in when I was a kid, almost 15 yrs ago. And none of which was violent nor a felony. Since then I have been a volunteer firefighter, landlord, father of three and a damn good person.

I know it may be a concern but the CAO has told me I have an opportunity to appeal the decision and I am wondering if ANYONE has gone through this and what I may expect.

I have heart and ambition and I would make an excellent trainee and want to fight with all I have to make it into the academy. So if anyone can help me alittle with what to expect other than being fully confident in myself I would greatly appreciate the support.

Mikey,

I had my medical evaluation earlier that week and was "originally" schedualed for the psychological evaluation that day but got a call the day before "reschedualing" the psych. until the 29th, then Mr. Flynn called to let me know he was sending out the letter.

Mr. Flynn stated I had the right to appeal but it didn't mention the right on the letter he sent me. My counsel did inform me that I can appeal though.

I also was notified today from Health Resources that I passed my medical but they just needed a note from my doctor on and old injury. That was strange.

Why would you want to appeal it if they DON't want you. Even if you do win, you will be marked and 25 weeks of hell will be too long. You are obviously not competitive enough to continue through the process. It's life.

J809,

Thanks for the "positive reinforcement" . It is not a matter of competition at this stage and if I can make it into the academy it would be worth it no matter what it is like.

Why should he give up????
I would exhaust every possibility before I gave up.
The whole "appeal process" implies he still has a chance to get in, so why not try. At the very worst Kelgers will be in the same position at the end.

I definitely side with mkpnt on this one. Not to sound like an old cliche but, the "squeaky wheel gets the grease." Hell yeah appeal. What if something was on your record that shouldn't have been there, or whatever... there could be a million possible scenarios for disqualifiers, but just because you heard the word "No" doesn't mean that the game is over. In my line of work, my job doesn't really begin until someone says "No."

Kelgers good luck with your appeal process, I wish I had appealed my test scores in '02, I don't trust the standardized testing machines. I never erase good enough...

Kelgers,

whatever the past indiscretions may be did you TELL them about it or did a Background Investigator FIND OUT. This is the only thing I could think of because the things you decribe appear to be very minor.

AAAAAAAHHHHH, the Ex wife factor. Not good. I don't know what she is saying about you but it appears that the review board seems to believe her. I think the only way to change their minds would be supplying some evidence that she is lying. Good luck.

Why would a review board not give someone the chance to rebut what someone has said about them? Especially an ex-wife!
Why should they bother? If the board has 2 candidates with equal qualifications, except one has baggage, why wouldn't they just move on to the guy without the ex-wife troubles? I'm sure Kelgers is a good guy, but look at things from the board's point of view. What if they take the word of a potential trainee to has some alleged abuse on his background check. Then two years later the trooper is arrested for domestic abuse, or worse. Did any of you see the cop from Peabody who beat his mother? He was on every newscast for a week. It bites, but in this case I think your guilty until proven innocent. Good luck, and I hope for Kelger's sake I'm wrong.

Rich

On one hand I can see your point, however her allegations are not regarding abuse.

Honestly I am just looking for some help/support in my appeal. I do appreciate all the comments but that really isn't the point of this thread.

If anyone would like to share some information about the appeal process please PM me.

Thanks
