Chicago police shot and killed an armed man who ran from officers Monday night when they tried to stop a vehicle reported stolen that he was driving on the North Side, authorities said.

Jeffrey Miller, 36, was shot at about 9:15 p.m. in the 5500 block of North Washtenaw Avenue in the Budlong Woods neighborhood.

The incident was the 31st police-involved shooting in Chicago this year, the 12th fatal, according to officials.

Miller of the 4000 block of North Lavergne Avenue had 30 arrests over the last decade, mostly for narcotics and trespassing and a few battery arrests, according to records.
