The Amherst Massachusetts Police Department is accepting applications to fill an existing vacancy for the position of Police Officer. All applicants must possess a full time (22 week) Massachusetts Municipal Police Academy Certification or be able to obtain a waiver for out of state police certification from the Massachusetts Criminal Justice Training Committee before being considered.
As of July 1, 2015 the starting pay for an Amherst Police Officer is $42,326. In addition, provisions allowed under the Educational Incentive Pay Program, referred to as the "Quinn Bill," have been funded by the Town of Amherst. New employees who have a college degree in a criminal justice or similar discipline will receive an additional educational incentive pay of: 10% for an associate's degree, 20% for a bachelor's degree and 25% for a master's degree. Hiring Process Includes:
1. Application Closing Date and Initial Review: October 21, 2015
2. Citizen/Staff Oral Interview-October 28, 2015
3. Police Chief and Town Manager Interview-week of November 9, 2015
4. Offer of employment, by November 15, 2015, contingent upon passing the following: Psychological Examination, Drug and Narcotic Screening, Massachusetts Human Resources Division Medical Examination(s), Thorough Background Investigation
