NEW ORLEANS --
New Orleans Police Superintendent Warren Riley said an officer arrested on rape charges Tuesday was investigated for similar charges in the past.
Officer Christopher Buckley, 36, faced similar complaints in 2001 and 2003. The 2001 case involved a 16-year-old girl. The 2003 cases involved a 12-year-old girl and a 15-year-old girl on separate incidents.
The NOPD turned the complaints over to the Orleans Parish District Attorney's Office but prosecutors did not bring charges against Buckley, citing insufficient evidence. In each case, either the victim or the victim's parents did not cooperate with investigators.
Buckley was booked on Tuesday on charges of raping the 13-year-old daughter of his girlfriend. Buckley resigned from the NOPD after his arrest.
Wednesday Superintendent Riley said had he been at the helm of the department when Buckley was investigated, he would have fired Buckley.
Buckley, a 10-year veteran of the force, is being held on a $525,000 bond.
