Abington man found in possession of drugs, officers say

An Abington man was arrested on drug charges after police became suspicious when they saw him driving around a South Shore Plaza parking garage.
Police said officers Sean McConville and Ryan McHugh saw a Jeep Cherokee circle the south parking garage and then pull into a parking space after seeing the officers in their marked cruiser at about 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
The driver, Kyle L. Fletcher, 22, sat in his vehicle for 20 minutes before pulling out and driving to nearby Circuit City.
While in the Circuit City parking lot, Fletcher met the driver of a Nissan Maxima and had a brief conversation while both remained seated in their vehicles.
The two then drove to the plaza parking garage.
Police said Fletcher drove to the second level while the driver of the Maxima went to the first level.
Fletcher got out of his vehicle and entered a stairwell connecting the first and second levels of the garage, police said.
After a few minutes, Fletcher returned to his Jeep and drove out of the parking garage and turned onto Granite Street, police said.
Police said they stopped Fletcher's vehicle after he went through a red light at Forbes Road.
The officers could smell an odor of marijuana from inside the vehicle and found Fletcher with a marijuana pipe containing burnt residue.
During a search of Fletcher's car, police discovered a bag of marijuana in the driver's side door compartment, a digital scale and plastic bags used to package marijuana.
Fletcher allegedly admitted to having more marijuana tucked in his shoe.
Police charged Fletcher with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, failing to stop for a red light, driving without an inspection sticker and selling drugs in a school zone. Both the Flaherty and KinderCare schools are nearby.
