Investigation Still Ongoing

Police said a baby shower ended with a bang after four people were shot and taken to area hospitals.

West Hartford Police officers were dispatched to the United Auto Workers hall at around 11:30 p.m. Saturday after receiving reports of shots fired.

The banquet hall -- located at 666 Oakwood Ave. -- is frequently rented for private events and had been rented for a baby shower. Investigators said a fight at the event escalated into a shooting incident.

According to the West Hartford Police Department, there were four gunshot victims with injuries of varying degrees. Two left the scene before police arrived and were taken to the Hartford Hospital for treatment. Two other victims were transported by ambulance to area hospitals.
Capt. Paul Melanson and West Hartford Police officers are conducting an active and on-going investigation.

Police say shooting suspects returned to site

Associated Press - October 21, 2008 9:34 AM ET

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - West Hartford police say two suspects in a shootout that injured four people at a baby shower returned to the scene in an apparent attempt to retrieve evidence they left behind.
Police say the men returned to the United Auto Workers hall with a pit bull at about midnight on Monday. Officers who were staking out the building went after the suspects, but they say the men set the dog after the officers and escaped.
Officers fired two shots at the pit bull to protect themselves. The suspects remain at large.
Police say the four people who were shot outside the hall late Saturday are recovering. Investigators say the shootings may have been the result of a gang or neighborhood dispute.
Authorities won't say what evidence the suspects left behind.

Two Charged In Baby-Shower Shooting

Four Injured In Shower Shootout

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. -- Police have arrested two men in connection with a shooting that injured four people at a West Hartford baby shower last month.

Orlando Correa, 20, and Julio Bonilla, 19, both of Hartford were arrested Tuesday in connection with the shooting investigation.

Charges against the brothers include attempted murder, assault, risk of injury to a minor, interfering with police and weapons crimes.

Police said DNA was used to link Bonilla and Correa to guns found at the United Auto Workers hall, where the baby shower was held.
An argument between several women at the baby shower escalated to the shootout, police said.

Police said more arrests are expected in the case.
