2nd suspect in 2003 sexual assault arrested

(04/15/09) DARIEN - Darien police say the second man involved in the 2003 sexual assault of a woman has been arrested in Mexico.
Authorities say Jose Amaya, of East Hartford, was arrested by U.S. Marshal officers Tuesday and brought back to Connecticut. According to police, Amaya fled to Mexico after the attack and had remained there since.

Alejandra Mendez, who was also accused of being involved in the attack, was arrested about a month later in California. He is currently serving a 15-year prison sentence.
Police say the two men approached a female jogger on April 13, 2003 near Ring's End and Long Neck Point roads. Authorities say they hit the woman on the head with a bottle, forced her into a car and took her to a secluded area where they sexually assaulted her.
