Police say NH man plotted murder from jail

HAVERHILL, N.H. -- The latest person charged in the murder of a Vermont man in northern New Hampshire is accused of helping plot the murder while he was in jail.
Michael Robie, 18, is accused of plotting with three others to kill Christopher Gray, 25, of Groton, Vt., and telling them to destroy evidence. He is being held on $500,000 bail on a conspiracy to commit murder charge.
Gray's body was found on Oct. 9, buried on property near the trailer home where the four suspects live in Haverhill.
Robie is the father of a 2-month-old son with Amber Talbot, 17, who also has been charged with conspiracy to commit murder. Gray, Talbot and another defendant, Timothy Smith, 23, all worked at the Woodsville Wal-Mart.
Smith is being held on a second degree murder charge. The fourth suspect, Anthony Howe, 18, is being held on a charge of hindering apprehension.
Court papers say that in mid-September, Robie called the other three from jail and talked about killing Gray.
Late on the night of Oct. 7, the complaint alleges, Talbot dropped dropped off Smith, Howe and Gray at the trailer.
Soon after, according to the court complaint, "Anthony Howe grabbed Christopher Gray and told Timothy Smith to 'do it now."'
At about 2 a.m. Oct. 8, "Timothy Smith called Amber Talbot and said 'it was done,"' the complaint said.
Later that day, according to the complaint, "Timothy Smith and Anthony Howe buried Christopher Gray's body" on the property.

Police say NH man confessed to stabbing

HAVERHILL, N.H. -- Police say the Haverhill, N.H., man charged with stabbing his Wal-Mart co-worker to death initially denied any involvement, but later returned to the police station to confess.
Twenty-three-year-old Timothy Smith is charged with second-degree murder in the death of 25-year-old Christopher Gray of Groton, Vt., in October. Three of Smith's teenage friends have also been charged for their involvement in the murder, which police say they plotted for three weeks.
A police affidavit unsealed on Monday said Smith admitted getting in a fight with Gray, instinctively pulling out a knife and stabbing him five or six times. Police say Smith also confessed to burying Gray in a shallow grave.
The affidavit included a letter of apology from Smith to Gray's family, saying that he was sorry for what he'd done and that Gray did not deserve to die.
