A 12-year-old boy who allegedly robbed an Orlando Walgreens while armed with two plastic BB guns will be held at the juvenile-detention center, a judge said.

The 4-foot-9, 96-pound boy appeared in juvenile court, flanked by his mother and father. His father argued for the boy's release, said he'd be under 24-hour adult supervision and asked for court monitoring.

The judge said monitoring was not available and the boy met the standards to remain detained. Police arrested the boy early Monday in the parking lot of the 24-hour Walgreens in MetroWest and booked him into the Orange County juvenile-detention center on one felony count of robbery with a firearm.

Authorities also added these new charges: Second-degree felony robbery, third-degree felony false imprisonment, and a first-degree misdemeanor of resisting an officer without violence. The boy's mother told the Orlando Sentinel on Monday that five older boys threatened to stab him and his family if he didn't rob the store.

But an Orlando police spokeswoman said the boy told officers "he did it because he wanted to buy some stuff."

Police said the boy was carrying nearly $700 in cash when we was arrested.
