TAUNTON, Mass. -- The Massachusetts National Guard is holding a welcome home ceremony this weekend for about 165 soldiers who have spent the past year in Iraq.
Members of the 772nd Military Police Company will be honored Sunday during a ceremony at Taunton High School. The unit deployed to Iraq a year ago to train, mentor and coach Iraqi police.
The event will include formal recognition of the unit's service and feature guest speakers and an awards presentation.
The unit is coming home with a heavy heart, as one member was killed during the deployment. Spc. Matthew Pollini died last January in a vehicle rollover near Al Kut. The 21-year-old Rockland man was married just weeks before he shipped out.
