Police said a teenager has been charged after a series of robberies and sexual assaults near the campus of Temple University.

Authorities said a 14-year-old male was arrested in connection with two of three attacks on women within the past month. In addition, police said a 15-year-old will be charged as an accomplice.

Police said the first assault occurred on February 3 in the 1600 block of Fontain Street. The suspect approached a 21-year-old female, asking to use her cell phone before forcing her to the ground and exposing himself, authorities said.

A similar incident was reported on February 12 in the 2000 block of N. Carlisle St. Authorities said a 19-year-old female was approached by a teenage suspect, who asked to use her phone. When she refused, police said the suspect grabbed the cell phone from her hand and forced her to hug him before running off.

"Even though he’s a juvenile, he’s a kid committing adult crimes," said Captain John Darby of the Philadelphia Police.

Police are trying to determine if the teen was involved in an attack on 1700 block of Diamond Street on February 7. Authorities said a 21-year-old female said a man held a knife to her throat and groped her before running off with her purse and cell phone.

Temple University Police have joined Philadelphia authorities in hopes of solving the unresolved robbery and assault.

"The investigation continues as we speak and we do hope to resolve that case," Captain Darby said.

Temple University officials said extra patrols will be added around campus and students should take extra precautions while walking in the area.

"We've been working very closely with city police on the investigation to date and continue to do so around the third incident," said Temple Spokesperson Mark Eyerly.
