Woman getting ride from cop grabs his gun and kills herself Published July 06, 2012 FoxNews.com A troubled Illinois woman who got a ride to the hospital from a police officer grabbed his service gun and killed herself as he drove, police said. Stephanie Hicks, 20, of Alton Ill., was making the 10-mile trek from her home to Christian Hospital in St. Louis, where she planned to check herself in for mental health help, according to police. With temperatures near 100 degrees, the police officer, who was not identified, offered Hicks a ride as she crossed a bridge. While it isn't typical protocol to allow courtesy rides, the officer called his supervisor to get permission, according to reports. He also allowed her to sit in the front seat, possibly because it was cooler there. I know right D? I won't move all my shit for anyone. Pregnant lady? Better hold on cause those plastic seats are slippery...
I don't mind moving my shit for anyone on the above list, and I did so a few years ago when a retired pro-police judge (not from QDC, which goes without saying) broke down, and I gave him a ride to a nearby Dunkin' Donuts to wait for his wife to pick him up. He actually offered to sit in the back seat, but I said "Your honor, you really don't want to sit back there, unless your tetanus and Hepatitis vaccines are up to date".
If only he kept driving, she might's just taken a dive off the bridge and spared the officer all this drama. This just goes to show you how selfish people who do this are, and also reaffirms for me to not give anyone the benefit of the doubt, based on looks alone or based on age. In other words, if you've broken into my house and you don't look like the type to do it, BANG, BANG, BANG. I'm sorry that the officer's in this mess, but I'm glad the story's out there cuz it reminds us of what we can all do to stay as safe as possible: (1) don't pick up hitchhikers, (2) don't trust anyone based on looks or age alone, and (3) protect ourselves no matter what, 'cause nobody else will.
The only people who sit in the front are ride alongs and family members. Also any state police department who makes their troopers transport up front are fucking insane imo.
