What ever happened to railroad police? I used to see the blue and white Conrail cop cars or the P&W black Broncos all the time, now I never see any rr depts anymore. I know P&W police was disbanded and Conrail is now CSX. Same with Boston & Maine (Guilford), what ever happened to all these dept?

Well, Amtrak continues to have a police force of their own...where they are located???? Don't know.

When the Boston & Maine basically shutdown so did their department.

Not much more in the way of railroads coming through our neck of the woods anymore. Mostly shipping, airlines etc...

Now if you go to the midwest you my find some active deparments within thier own.

I see Amtrak PD at South Station frequently. B&M/Guilford/Pan Am or whatever the hell they are calling themselves these days laid off more than half the force about 3-4 years ago; they mostly stick to the rail yards in Maine and NH, with one or two guys over at the Mechanicville yard just over the border in NY.

Last fall I worked with a couple of B & M guys over in Ayer. Chased a few machines on the rail yard property, had a few laughs and called it a day. Good guys I think one was out of Maine

About a year ago we had a fatal on the railroad tracks (not commuter) and the MSP ended up taking it over.

I talked to an Amtrak Police Officer at South Station. Their Dispatcher is out of South Station in the day, at night it goes over to Philadelphia, Amtrak PD World HQ.

Amtrak Police are very active all over the lines they own in MA and RI. Most major Amtrak Stations have Amtrak Police Presence (Providence, Boston, etc.). Amtrak Police also ride on the passenger trains at times.

CSX as it was explained to me they try to have one police officer assigned to each state. I have not seen a CSX Police Officer since Conrail disappeared. It seems to me that CSX Police mostly hang around NY State where their mega yards are located.

B&M (or whatever they call themselves this week) used to be an extremely active RR police department. They cut down there police force. They seem to be more reactive now then proactive, never the less they maintain a presence:

Thread from RR. net about them.

P&W RR police had an incident in 1999 in Providence with an arrest and were sued. The police department disbanded shortly there after.

For what it is worth, Norfolk Southern Railroad Police are now in the area as well since the creation of Pan Am-Southern, a joint venture between both the railroads.

    HA HA!!!!
That was actually a Boston and Maine case. Tony D. and the boys from Iron Horse Park steadfastly held onto the jurisdiction for that one. I heard the Middlesex Sheriffs "sex crimes unit" wanted it but in the end they lost out.

That report must be a pretty good read...

What's the full scope of their jurisdiction? I recall a few years back, I saw Amtrak Police doing (what appeared to be) a traffic stop in Framingham.
