Temple massacre has some Sikhs mulling gun ownership

Sim Singh carried a legal gun even before the Wisconsin Sikh Temple massacre.
The Sikh temple massacre prompted calls for stricter gun control, but some members of the India-based faith -- who carry ceremonial knives -- are considering taking up firearms in light of the tragedy.
Sikhs are rattled after the horrific Aug. 5 shooting in Oak Creek, Wis., in which Wade Michael Page opened fire for no apparent reason before a police officer gunned him down. Although the religion teaches tolerance and good deeds, some believe arming themselves could be the best protection against hate crimes that have too frequently been perpetrated by assailants who mistake them for Muslims. Page's own motive is unclear, though he was a known white supremacist.

Sikhism is a very peaceful culture, but Sikhs are fierce warriors when provoked. I really hope they arm themselves for their protection.

I'm loving this response from them... rather than lay down and denounce gun ownership they're looking at it reasonably... arm ourselves from the next crazed wacko.

It's impossible to be peaceful and contribute good to society when you're dead.

Sister You couldn't have said it better...Maybe you could sit down with Liz Warren, Dianne Feinstein, Hilary Clinton, and Nancy Pelosi and explain it to them?

Why would you do that to me??????

We may all be females... but any "similarity" ends there!

So, why didn't the Sikh burn down the nearest government building or riot? Isn't that what people are supposed to do when they are slighted?

That's because Sikhism REALLY IS a religion of peace.

Not only did he have the survival/"Im going home no matter what" mindset, he was actively trying to stay in the fight. Contrast that to this Officer, who lost an eye after getting hit with a shotgun by a suicide by cop because he was unwilling to drop the guy.
He was in the back of the ambulance trying to call his wife and tell her he wasnt going to make it. He gave up, and can only thank luck for his survival.
This LT wasnt going to let ANYTHING get in his way of making it home.

Man with ammo detained at Sikh temple

    Published November 02, 2012
    Associated Press
OAK CREEK – A police report says Oak Creek officers detained a man at the Sikh temple where six people were killed in August and found he had ammunition and notebook references to a mass shooting.
Sikh members summoned police last Sunday when the man visited the temple with a backpack. The man told officers he wanted to pray with the Sikhs and was writing a book.
Officers searched the man's backpack and found duct tape, zip ties, crime scene tape and a notebook with references to the mass shooting in Aurora, Colo. The police report says several boxes of ammunition and an empty gun case were found in his car.
