Quincy Police Department adds 3 officers Posted 20 hour(s) ago Mark J. Connolly, Matthew F. Pantazelos and Daniel J. Clark have taken the oath to serve. The Quincy Police Department now has 145 officers.
I haven't heard where they're going to the academy, but one new recruit better hope it's not the T Academy, for reasons I will not share publicly.
Don't think this will add cops to the street. They are being hired, likely, to fill the spots when they make three more Sgts. It seems they want to fill more Sgt jobs and not fill higher rank slots. Go figure. The book that could be written would be a best-seller, and while it would be non-fiction, nobody would believe it. QPD is like the state house with blue lights.
I've always said that I'm writing a book after I retire, but there will be 2 versions. The regular version, which will likely be categorized as fiction because few people will believe it (or want to believe it), and the posthumous edition, which will name names and convince the naysayers that it wasn't all bullshit.
Delta can you shed some light as to when the process started for these three new officers? I'm sure it's obvious to you why i'm asking.
No idea.....seriously. Not a clue. I'm most definitely not one of the Beautiful People who would know stuff like that.
The three new officers have officially completed field training tonight (technically last night) and will be assigned to shifts/groups after they complete the 911 training for the next couple of days. All great guys with a lot of potential....first time in recent memory where there were absolutely ZERO attitude issues to correct with new officers. Officers Connolly, Pantazelos, and Clark.....congratulations, and welcome to the best job that you'll grow to hate.
Bruce, If my math is right, these guys got hired in March, went through the academy, and are already finished with their FTO training in October... all in only seven months; is that correct?
This field training program was completely fucked-up.....it used to be the "San Diego Model".....8 weeks, with each trainee spending 2 weeks with one officer before going with a different officer for 2 weeks, and so on, for a total of 4 different officers for 8 weeks. This......"program" was a hodgepodge of spending time with different officers on different shifts, and I only spent 2 nights on different days with 2 of the officers, and one night with the third. I plan on submitting suggestions to the training director, consisting mostly of suggesting they go back to the old program, because this one was disgraceful.
Doesn't sound terribly fair to the Boot's either. Our recent "FTO" training seemed to fly by... like it was too short. Then again shipping them off to high school brought a bunch of good guys/gals back east.
Set 4 new retirement alarm clocks. Good luck Officers, I wish you all the best! Listen to the older guys, because they are still there! Stay safe!
