    I see they had layoffs a while back...anyone know if they are anticipating hiring anytime soon? Good pd to work for?

    Minimum wage in the academy with no job upon graduation. Won't see a car for a few years after they finally get around to calling you to work, which historically can be in excess of 18 months after the academy.

    the last few academy's only half of the class gets on, the rest are on a waiting list.... the department is down to about 430 compared to a usual operating strength of 500 officers.

    back in the day south providence was the preferred residence of police and fire "Irish people" ;)

    I'm not LEO, but I know PVD, City is in serious financial distress, because of spending habits of prior mayors. Yeah I know big surprise right. Cops I know who work there LOVE the job, limited politics, good mayor, but TIGHT budget!!!!!!!!!!!
