The one I know of was sent out about two years ago.

The entire public safety community does not share your opinion. Most of the opposition to sheriffs having a mobile command vehicle is political, both amongst chiefs and unions. That is fine with me. There are competing interests and I understand that and don't take it personally.

I'm not an advocate of sheriffs patrolling. You claim that, "Sheriffs only involvement in Ma public safety id the housing of prisoners..." Clearly, this is your desire, but you state it as if it were fact, and it is not.

If it was not a fact we would not be discussing it.
  2. bbelichick Moderator

We are discussing it because guys run for Sheriff and then get pushy...and guys apply to be C/O's and decide they want to be cops without all the hassle of a hiring process and pesky training.

    Lock up, Otto.

You wrote,"Sheriffs ONLY involvement in Ma public safety is the housing of prisoners."

Is this a fact or your desire? Do you know the difference?
  4. bbelichick Moderator

    Both.

Once the new govenor gets in office it will all be a moot point because he is gonna make us all social workers. Gee I bet everyone will want the support of all those Deputies when the Govenor is trying to water down our authority.

Yeah, goddamn us for carrying around a badge and a gun and helping out citizens and local pd's when they need us. Yeah we're nothing cause we' didnt have the training you had(which is alot more than you think), I hope to God you never back me up, and I hope to God a Sheriff gets to back you up so you can see our sincerity. This Bulls++* about you being better is ridiculous. I always thought is was us against them. But thanks to **sholes like you is us against us. I hope you're proud of yourself. Last time I checked we all had American flags on our uniforms and were in it for a common good. If Sheriff's departments did nothing why do they still exist? I hope to God(yes even sheriff's pray to God) that you're safe, and I hope you wish the same for us. This fighting is ridiculous, law enforcement is law enforcemnet, to suggest that you're any better than the next guy is a travesty. After all, why do Deputies wear vests? To even suggest that you're better is to make a mockery of the law enforcement community in this state. Yeah, what a great idea; start infighting between the agencies. What a jerk anyone is to suggest that they are any better than anyone that puts on a uniform and risks their lives any given night. I hope God keeps you safe from harm, I honestly do. But I also hope that you realize just how many people out there want to keep scumbags off the streets. Sure, we don't have the powers you do, but we do our part. If you dont like it, move to Cuba, or North Korea. I'm sick of this crap, I read this every day, how sheriff's aren't good enough, and how you're so much better. Yep, we should all go to hell for being American and being Sheriff's. Be safe out there.

Okay, I have been a member of this board for a few years but have never been a big poster. After reading all this crap about sheriffs in Mass I felt the need to add my 2 cents. I was a police officer in Mass. but have now relocated to Florida where I work as a police officer. I am a deputy with a sheriff's department. In Florida deputies are the police and there is no debate with that. in Florida all law enforcement officers(city police, deputies, college police, etc.) attend the same full-time academy. As far as Mass., the sheriff and the deputies are not police, PERIOD. The sheriff's responsibility is the jails. I am not one to put down anyone who works as a police officer whether they work as a state trooper, city cop, or campus cop etc, however sheriff's are not police in Mass. and most deputies have little or no training and are just appointed. When I was in Mass I knew a few "deputies" who were appointed, had absolutely no training and would run around thinking they were the police and one even told me he was the top law enforcement officer in the county and had more powers then me. It made me sick to my stomach and when those appointed hack deputies run around in public telling everyone they are the police it gives all the real cops a bad name. That is the reality in Mass. and I do not see anything changing. To all Mass. sheriff deputies, if you want to be a cop then apply to a police department otherwise stay behind the walls and be proud of what you do. Corrections is a tough job and I would not want to do it. I respect anyone that works in corrections. Now if there are any Mass deputies that don't like what I said tough sh*t.
End rant and excuse the poor gramar.

Jeez, you all sound like a bunch of 2 year olds. How many Sheriff bashing posts are gonna be on here.
  12. 4233 MassCops Member

As many as it takes to get them back behind the wall where they belong.
  13. gooday MassCops Member

Jails keep criminals in there place, police keep sheriffs in theres now I guess.
  14. bbelichick Moderator

If the Sheriffs won't keep THEMSELVES where they belong, then yes, I guess so.
  15. phuzz01 Subscribing Member

The way I look at it is that we may all be on the same team, but we don't all play the same position. A football team is not going to work very well if the big fat guys up front decide that they want to play wide receiver and start running downfield for the ball. Nor is it going to work if the 125-lb. kicker decides that he wants to run block on the offensive line.

We all have our position to play on this law enforcement team. Some of us need to go out and find shitbirds, and others need to keep them in their cages where they belong.
  16. bbelichick Moderator

Oh, Lord...Millions probably. Leave now if it bothers you.
  17. Macop Subscribing Member

I suppose, I doubt these post will make any difference. The posts don't "bother" me, I am sure we can find something more interesting to fight about.

BBelichick why don't clam up and go find a MVA before the Sheriff gets it.
  18. bbelichick Moderator

Why don't you crawl back into a jail.
  19. OutOfManyOne Subscribing Member

I've been saying it for years and I say it again, F*ck the Sheriff.
  20. Macop Subscribing Member

Because I didnt come out of one.

For the record, Brockton does use PCBCI but on a very limited basis. PCBCI's assistance includes snapping photographs of shell casing, broken windows, etc. They also dust for prints. That is all, and this only occurs because of an agrrement that was made some time ago. It is not a preferred way of doing things by Brockton. PCBCI is more of an impedement than anything. Often, Brockton Officers are waiting around a crime scene for PCBCI to show up. The officers would prefer to snap a few photos on their own and be done, it would expedite the investigation. PCBCI does not assist with anything else, they do not assit with accidents. Brockton does, however, use MSP for accident reconstruction assistance. I assume that the belief is that by utilizing the assistance the city is saving money and man power. It is not unusaul for a Brockton Officer to respond to 15 calls during a shift, during warm weather the number of calls sometimes exceeds 20, so I guess the assistance is welcome. Maybe they should hire more officers with that money they are saving.

I dont know if I'd call BCI an "impedement"... but otherwise I'd agree with you.
  23. wgciv Subscribing Member

The impedement is having to secure a crime scene for a longer period of time while awaiting the arrival of PCBCI. The officer could snap his/her own photos in a matter of 5 minutes as opposed to waiting, in some cases, 40 minutes for BCI to arrive. How can you not call that an impedement???
  24. Macop Subscribing Member

wgciv, maybe if your lucky, you can get a job as a water boy with the PCSO.
  25. 2-Delta Intolerant

I know the wait time can be a pain due to the fact there's only maybe 3 BCI deputies on at a time covering the whole county, but when it comes down to taking the proper photos, running prints through AFIS, or using their composite kit etc. I wouldn't call that an impedement only because most municipal pd's don't have those resources to do on their own.
