Unless this has changed, there is only a dB level for motorcycles.

MGL 90 / 16: No person shall operate a motor vehicle on any way which motor vehicle is equipped ... with an exhaust system which has been modified in a manner which will amplify or increase the noise emitted by the exhaust.

MGL 90 / 7U: No person shall operate a motorcycle intended for use on the highways of the commonwealth and registered under the provisions of section two of chapter ninety at any time or under any condition of grade, load, acceleration or deceleration in such a manner as to exceed eighty-two decibels when operated within a speed zone of forty-five miles per hour or less, or in such a manner as to exceed eighty-six decibels when operated within a speed zone of over forty-five miles per hour measured at fifty feet using the prescribed highway vehicle sound level measurement procedure.

I'm pretty sure there is nothing illegal about retouching a green plate, if the inspector approves it, you're golden. You could always check with the MA Highway Patrol, they have a lot of free time and primarily only deal with traffic crimes. J/K MSP guys, keep your campaign hats on.

The nice thing about the campaign cover is that it makes it difficult to place my head in my ass. I am thinking maybe you should try the campaign cover to prevent this problem in the future

Worcester area huh? I sure hope you're not a Worcester cop....

And why is that? Are you another city folk that has numerous issues with WPD
  7. jettsixx Had enough

You have it exactly right there, I've been to some inspection stations that have told people they couldnt drive away with a reverse light out as it was a violation of the law and the station could be held liable so, for a modest fee, they replaced the bulb for them. I still have a green plate its in great shape not faded or cracked and I have never done anything to it. If it were faded or damaged I would have no problem getting a new one but if it is fine the I do have an issue with spending money for new plates that I do not need.

If you have a green plate the registry is suposed to replaced it with a two red plates for free, defective or not, the registry wants all vehicle to have two red plates. If the inspection station puts a sticker on a vehicle with green plates, they can be held liable and fined, or even have their inspection license suspended.
  10. Deuce screw you...

Yeah, I have my issues with the WPD. I have many issues with the WPD. One of my issues is when they lowered the standards to let certain people make it through to the rank and file. I know the Training staff well. I've heard the stories and I've had to deal with the results. Obviously you were in one of these groups. You've been on this site for less than a month and you've managed to rile some feathers and alienate others. You've brought nothing tangible to the table, just drivel. I'd have some respect for you and ignore your douchebag type comments, if you actually had something intelligent to contribute. Alas, you're just coming off as a smartass fuckstick. And since I'm a Worcester cop, I don't want anyone else on this board wondering if we all think alike. That's why I hope you're not one also, because you're an embarrassment if you are...

The last thing I remember seeing from the registry is that if the plate was legible from 60ft away it was fine and did not need to be replaced. Has there been anything further?

Own a buisness that does inspection stickers, the inspector from the registry told us not to put any stickers on vehicle with green plates, or we will be fined. If you go to the registry and they say that your green plate is good then ask them to write it on your registration and sign it. Amazingly at that time they will do their job and give you a set of free red plates.
  13. Foxy85 MassCops Member

Yes, because those "inspection stations" never ever give out stickers to vehicles that they shouldn't

I had a guys piss and moan about blue tinted HID lights he put in and how he got a sticker too - 20 days to pay or appeal....

As far as the MSP comment - really? ....Really? :banghead:
  14. jettsixx Had enough

Is that how you get them to do thier job. :smoke:

Guess you should tell them to update their website as well.

    http://www.mass.gov/rmv/regs/replace_plates.htm

The RMV is NOT recalling green license plates. By state law, Massachusetts license plates must be readable from 60 feet away. Any green or red passenger plate, which has lost its reflective coating or paint, must be replaced. You can be cited by law enforcement for this violation. Also, your vehicle will be ineligible to pass the yearly required state safety inspection.

Give them enough power and they start taking more.

Well aren't you just a genius who can find a web site. Like I stated the inspector from the registry told us not to put any more stickers on vehicles with green plates. He is the one who told us to have the registered owner tell the registry clerk to sign the registration.

The web site is not the ones who fine my buisness.
So why don't you go tell the RMV to update their web site...
  17. jettsixx Had enough

No need to get defensive, just saying that their website is telling people one thing and the inspections stations are telling them another. Not saying the inspector isnt telling you that. You tell me- if you were getting your vehicle inspected and they told you one thing when you know you saw something different on the RMV website wouldnt you get a little irratated and question why?
  18. DEI8 Supporting Member

Just dealing with the registry is irratating.:stomp:
  19. jettsixx Had enough

I'm sure must be especially when they tell you one thing and the general public another.
  20. mtc High Priestess

I've talked to several people who said it's the RMV inspectors that have screwed this up so royally.

UNLESS - your inspector dude shows you an actual order or declaration from the RMV, or from the Registrar herself, I'd challenge him on that.

Sounds like he's on a power trip.

(however my greenie is starting to fade... looks like it's going to have to go...)

Why do inspection stations continue to give stickers to vehicles with red plates that are faded out completely?
  21. Hush Moderator

Because they've squeezed all the blood they can at this point, and they havent come up with an excuse to charge you more for a replacement yet.

I got a brand new never issued green plate two years ago on my car, don't ask but it can be done!!
  23. The Bad LT MassCops Member

Foxy, were they blue headlights? Or was it just a crappy eBay hid kit? HID's naturally produce a blue tinted light due to the gas inside the bulb. What did you gig him with?

    LICENSE PLATE RESTORATION SERVICE

i'm not re-reading that blue line crap spew to find who suggested you hang it on your wall, but maybe you go to that site, freshen up your plate, it finds it's way on the car by act of god or act of child.......or maybe you don't....i'm not psychic
  25. Johnny Law Always outnumbered. Never outgunned.

All due respect DEI8 and definitely not calling you out, like I said, these dinks are making up their own fucking rules in direct violation of state law. They aren't getting my plate. I don't recall ever seeing anything saying there is a law that every motor vehicle must have 2 plates, only that where 2 plates are issued, both must be displayed.

I put a Spintech exhaust on my last truck. The inspection station told me they weren't going to pass it because it wasn't "stock". I asked WTF does that mean? Does it need to have a Dodge, GMC etc stamp on it to be stock? Does it need to have a big three part number on it to be stock? They told me the Registry inspector had been fucking with them and told them they can't pass systems without it being stock, but failed to tell me what stock was. They did pass my truck because there wasn't anything except some guy telling them they couldn't. If it ain't in writing, it doesn't count.

Funny isn't it? How a guy can decide he doesn't like something, and make up his own rules in relation to what he doesn't like, and yet it doesn't need to be in writing. I have to follow the laws, which are in writing for all to see, so that everyone knows what is right and wrong. Registry inspectors....code word for tiny penises.
