Off-duty officer strikes woman with cruiser in Milton Posted 21 hour(s) ago An off-duty Boston police sergeant hit a 65-year-old woman leaving a funeral on Blue Hill Avenue Wednesday.
Eh - not good because the likelihood that the woman was of minority decent will have them raging that it was a racial attack... but let's be serious here. Anyone in a car cannot see past a box truck - the truck stopped in the road - he'd have had no idea someone was crossing the street in front of it.
The last pedestrian accident I had, the operator was a plumber. There wasn't even a story about it in the local rag, never mind a story with the headline "Off-duty plumber strikes woman with work truck in Quincy".
Ehh...normally I'm right with you on the cop defense, but I gotta say, the vast majority of us would gig an operator who passed a box truck stopped in the road without knowing why, and subsequently hitting a pedestrian. I don't see much defense for this one. He/she made a mistake. Own it. As for Bruce's comment, yeah, obviously it's only worth reporting cuz its a cop. That's a no-brainer for the media idiots.
I've seen enough pedestrian accidents in the city that I never pass a stopped vehicle without first making sure there is no one crossing in front of. Especially one I can't see clearly around. Not trying to pile on the Sgt. but I'm with Sauce on this one.
