Anyone with real life experience with shooting/carrying a compact 1911 vs. a Glock 30 or other comparable smallish .45?

I'm interested in picking up a new carry piece but in .45. I love the S&W compact 1911 Pro, but its hard to justify $1,000 and I'm not sure its the best option with Hi-cap guns like the Glock 30 out there at half the price. Anyone with an educated opinion, or suggestion?

My main issue with the Glock 30 is how wide it is. The 1911 is much more carry friendly in that respect. Is there a middle of the road .45 out there? The M&P .45C perhaps? Size and reliability wise, where does it stack up?

My compact .45 is a Kahr P45. My full size is a Kimber TLE II

Ditto what Q5TPR said Ive carried both and always seem to go back to the 1911. Whatever you choose dont go cheap on the holster or belt. My holster and belt are both by MItch Rosen and I am still using them daily after 22 years with many years of service left in them. I prefer IWB because it works in all the seasons and keeps the weapon secure .

The glock 36 is a single stack .45 if you like that platform.

I have a Glock 36 and a Colt Combat Commander. Love them both. As said above, two very different types of guns, but two awesome weapons and both are accurate as hell.

Since I forgot to add it on my initial thread...here's a poll. What would your choice be for an off duty concealed carry pistol in .45 acp?

I had a Glock 36 and loved it. Easy to carry and accurate as hell. I traded it in for an M&P .40c when my dept went to the full size M&P .40 but I really liked the 36 and highly recommend it

S&W has a "Pro" series single stack 45 that's lightweight, small and has a great look-almost Colt commander/Officer's model size. Classic 45 all around, it's on my wish list

Yes, it's the one I'm debating over. The Glock just seems like a smarter move for my purposes.

I carry a G30 off duty, but it's pretty wide and not great for concealed carry. I use it because my duty mags fit if I ever need to transition.

The G36 is much better if you strictly want a .45

Yeah but then my only option is 6 round mags. If Im gonna resign myself to low capacity, why not buy a nice 1911 which is thinner and still has one more round?

    Well.....
I MUST agree with JAP and Q5 (as usual) so in summary:

    1. If your a real gun-savvy person and train like one....M1911
    2. If your a cheap/lazy Goober, then buy the Glock!

Screw practical, go with the 1911. Take a class, peruse the 10-8 forums, and read all you can find by Vickers or Hilton Yam.

    Lol ok any reason?
  19. Hush Moderator

Because its a classic platform, a fun gun, and because glocks are too practical.

I used to be concerned with how my personally owned gun(s) looked, and then I realized it is a tool to save my life when the time comes and some wear and tear is inevitable.

I'm not carrying a $2k 1911 every day, but I do have more than that invested in a rifle that rode in the patrol car when I was working. I can safely say that my rifle and gear was worth more than the crappy vehicle I was stuck with, and my rifle didn't even fit in the mount and my stubby VFG constantly poked into my tricep.

I personally carry a M&P in a MTAC...yeah, there is some finish wear on it, but its a fighting gun. :)

I have one of the S& W Pro Series, great gun to carry off duty, it disappears with an IWB holster and it has plenty of stopping power.
