This is why so many towns are trying to get out of Civil Service. This is nothing but a huge money making racket for the towns, I wonder how much kick-back the town gets from the testing company.

Worst of all they are not bound by the reults of the exam. Non-civil service they are still free to hire, fire, promote, demote whomever they want.

75 bucks for an island the size of a backyard? Manchester NH charges $25 and scores it infront of you. What a joke.

With just 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2) of land area, it is the smallest municipality by area in the state. It is primarily a residential community.

    Good lord.....

3000 people - a lot of people crammed into that 1 mile...

I would take Civil Service over non-CS any day. Of course it is not a perfect system but at least there are rules set out ahead of time, everyone knows the rules. It certainly sets a more even playing field than non-CS.

Non-CS towns are free to change the rules anytime they want.

All I know is they are a great bunch of guys and a squared away depatrment. If you are lucky enough to get hired you could learn alot. Like most seaside communities its busy in the summer and slows down in the winter. Good money too.

I spent the first half of my career in non-civil service agencies. The rest has been in CS agencies. Now the only reason why I was chomping at the bit to get CS status was so I could work for a city, and it just so happens they are all CS.

I am here to tell you its not much different, the powers that be just get more creative, thats all. Trust me, ive seen it in both of the CS departmenets I have worked in. I have clearly seen the promotion list fucked with to get who they want or they just just sit on the list until things go the way they want and it ends up making it worse, it doesnt matter!

Is that YOUR land? The 3 square feet near Simcos in Mattapan with the tomato plant on it? Yeah, I seen that! Nice farm.

    Thank you for your service.

Did you read the posting? The pay scale is listed, and it's a small town with likely limited opportunities for K9, SWAT, etc. Not to mention they require the R/I academy to apply, and offer preference to FT trained people.

If you get on in Nahant you'll be placed directly in the SWAT K9 unit upon completion of the R/I academy. They have an extremly active SWAT K9 unit. You'll be a nice addition. Good luck!!!

And damn, those dogs can SHOOT! I've heard they can pick a fly off a cat's ass at 300 yards....or hit the cat right between the eyes if they miss the fly!

    Burmese Mountain Dog ?
  22. Johnny Law Always outnumbered. Never outgunned.

I was going to say Russian Wolfhound, but I'm not sure due to the coloring.

EDIT: Forget it, facial features are all wrong for Russian Wolfhound

Hey, it can be yours for the bargin price of 5 million. And i'll throw in a chicken too!
  24. Delta784 Acting Stupidly

With CS you have a recourse if you get screwed. Without CS, you have no recourse.

Taking CS over non-CS is the most no-brainer of all comprehensible no-brainers. It's like having a loaded gun in your bedroom lockbox.....you may never need it, but it's doing absolutely no harm in being there.

I understand what your saying, all i'm saying is that its obviously not perfect and the list can be manipulated regardless.
