Well, here we are again....Memorial Day weekend 2012. While everyone is out BBQing, drinking, soaking up the rays, and spending time with family and friends, let's not forget what Memorial Day is all about. The members of the US Armed Forces that have come before us, currently serve, and those that have made the ultimate sacrifice are the reasons for this day. So, this weekend, make time to find a veteran, shake their hand, and thank them for their service and for your freedom. Remember, it's not about YOU and your annual cookout, it's about THEM. Think about it. So with that being said, I wish to extend a big THANK YOU to all the veterans out there. Your service and sacrifices do not and have not gone unnoticed. God Bless. And to those of us working this weekend, STAY SAFE!
Wishing you all a blessed Memorial Day. Thank you to all who have served and sacrificed. God bless you and your families.
Thinking of all those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. By the grace of God, some luck, skill, and the work of others, (or a combination of all four), both my grandfathers made it back from Army and Navy service during WWII. Many of their friends and fellow servicemen; however, didn't - a fact that's not lost when looking back on how proud I am of them as individuals. On a peaceful morning in January of last year I was able to pay my respects at Pearl Harbor. As I was walking out to leave the Arizona Memorial, I happened to look back for a moment, and then up at the flag. With the blue sky and single cloud as the backdrop and deafening silence, it stopped me in my tracks just for a moment. Before I continued to board the vessel to leave, I took two simple photos (below) as a reminder of the sacrifice of all our veterans, past and present. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Am I the only one who takes exception to the term "Happy" when it comes to any holiday that should be a day of remembrance, such as Memorial Day?
listened to a speaker today at a local event who was a Viet Nam vet. it was clear to see he still carried the scars from all those years ago. to past and present veterans, Thank You For Your Service.
Memorial Day Memorial Day, an American holiday observed on the last Monday of May, honors men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. Originally known as Decoration Day, it originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971. Many Americans observe Memorial Day by visiting cemeteries or memorials, holding family gatherings and participating in parades. Unofficially, at least, it marks the beginning of summer. http://www.history.com/topics/memorial-day-history
I've thought that as well...for people who don't know anything about Memorial Day and consider it another "happy day off from work and bbq'ing with friends." To hell with them, I've been @ work for 7 hours now and I have 4 more. Thank you to all the MC vets and the rest of the men and women who have served the US. Be safe.
My gratitude is with all those that served and made it home and my prayers are with those that served that did not make it home. May their sacrifices never be forgotten.
Yeah, saying "HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY" does seem awkward, but for lack of anything else, I use that phrase. Like every year past, I hate all the sales. "Show the Veterans how much their sacrifice means by BUYING A....." Screw that. I want to save money like everyone else and sure, if I NEED* something today, I'll no doubt buy it, but I WILL NOT PATRONIZE those businesses that hold these insulting sales. Wanna have a sale, sell ONLY to people with military IDs or have something to show they lost a family member in the service of the nation. To all of you who served and are with us today, I say, GOD BLESS AND THANK YOU! *I do not NEED a car, mattress, clothing, sunglasses, appliances, etc. TODAY. I'll wait for a day worthy of a sale, like Groundhog Day! Why not have your damn sale on GROUNDHOG DAY!?!? assholes.
This is one of a handful of days that I absolutely refuse to shop. I suppose if I forgot to get a prescription filled and skipping a dose would cause a problem, I might go to the pharmacy. But other than that, I can't think of a single thing that I didn't need yesterday that I can't wait until tomorrow to buy.

Maybe I'm just a nit-picky bitch (shut up LawManson) but.............. I already have my one day a year to be thanked for the TINY sacrifice I made to our great land. Today is NOT a time to text, call, and thank Vets for their service. It IS a nice gesture but it is a day to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice. I was HONORED to be asked to perform a service today for the family of a fallen soldier. Flat out FLATTERED. They couldn't thank me enough and asked me to pose with their family in photos. I tried everything I could to get out of it but they insisted. On my way home I was BULLSHIT that the Sirius "DJ" had a moment of silence for Veterans, as he thanked us for our service. If you don't close your eyes at least once today and subliminally see an image of Arlington, I hope you make it a CONSCIOUS act. I wish I could share the details of the event, but can't for obvious reasons. I know I just posted this a couple weeks ago elsewhere but please take a couple minutes to watch this in it's ENTIRETY. Sorry for the rant. I think "they" deserve my defense of their day. Chive On !!! I might usually be the most unserious, sarcastic, prick asshole on the board, but I have no problem admitting that I just watched that and I cried like a little schoolgirl who was just called slut for the first time by another chick at school. Sorry again. Rant off.
Say what you will Snipe and I get your point, but thank you and everyone on this board that have served and continue to serve. For those still with us and those that are not....you are all better men and women than I and I'm honored and lucky to know so many that have stepped up and given so much.
Damn song makes me cry every freaking time I hear it. When I first heard it, I interperted it one way, then another, then I saw the video. No matter which way I take it, it KILLS me.
Thank Kilv. Never heard that one before. I've got more to say but I'll move it to the country music thread
