Sounds like a great idea...perhaps after that we could also give him directions to the nearest place he can buy some fertilizer and diesel fuel.

    "No."

That should about summarize the statement from the judge. Didn't I read somewhere if someone attempts to commit acts of terror against the U.S., they are treated differently through the eyes of the law? I.E. no civil rights etc... ? I'm probably just dreaming, but I could have swore I thought the rules were different in situations like this.

This is Massachusetts...even if he gets time it will only be a month or so, why even waste the time and money on a trial. Sheesh. :stomp:

I think that he should go live with some of the assclowns from Amherst that advocate for the release of these types.

    Terror Suspect Denied Bail

Tarek Mehanna Accused Of Conspiring With Al-Qaida

BOSTON -- A Massachusetts man accused of conspiring to provide support to al-Qaida has been denied bail.
Tarek Mehanna asked this week that he be released on bail while he awaits trial, arguing that the case against him is "paper thin" and based on anti-American statements he made in instant messages protected by the First Amendment.
He has been held without bail since October 2009 on charges including conspiring to provide material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization, al-Qaida.

I understand lawyers are supposed to represent their clients, but Jesus, what moron decides to actively pursue these avenues for a suspected terrorist.

Have they considered that should something occur, they might be a victim.

Mass. Man Asking Judge To Drop Terror Charge

Tarek Mehanna Says Activities Amounted To Free Speech

A Massachusetts man is asking a judge to dismiss portions of charges accusing him of providing support to al-Qaida, arguing that most of his activities amounted to free speech protected by the First Amendment. Lawyers for Tarek Mehanna are expected to make the arguments Wednesday during a hearing in U.S. District Court. Mehanna, an American citizen from the wealthy Boston suburb of Sudbury, is accused in a 2010 indictment of conspiring to kill American troops in Iraq.

    Sudbury man’s terror case stands

    By Laurel J. Sweet
    Thursday, August 4, 2011

A federal judge refused to drop terrorism charges against accused al-Qaeda sympathizer Tarek Mehanna yesterday, rejecting arguments that the former Sudbury pharmacist’s extremist views are constitutionally protected free speech.
“Our client does not dispute that he tried to persuade people of his views,” attorney J.W. Carney Jr. argued.
“He does not believe United States soldiers should be in a Muslim country killing Muslims. He believes that. What Tarek Mehanna put in his publications . . . is core political speech.”

Judge agrees to delay terror conspiracy trial

I have to disagree with all of you. He wants bail, I say, no problem. It's his right. Bring him to Nantasket Beach, tow him out about 2 miles as he sits in a small leaky boat. Toss him a small bucket and leave yelling, "BAIL ALL YOU WANT SUCKER! WE'LL LET YOU KNOW HOW THE TRIAL WENT IF WE FIND YOU WASHED UP ON THE BEACH!"

    I say, GRANT HIM BAIL!

Oh damn, I almost forgot, when out on bail, many people have to wear a tracking device. I think in this case a nice 50 pounder around the neck would be perfect. We could track his movements all the way to the bottom.

Friend: Terror Suspect Praised Bin Laden, Hijackers

BOSTON -- A friend has testified at the federal trial of a Massachusetts man charged with conspiring to help al-Qaida that they watched jihad videos together and praised Osama bin Laden. On Thursday, the friend said Tarek Mehanna described bin Laden as his "real father" in online conversations they had in 2006. The man also testified that he and Mehanna expressed admiration for the Sept. 11 hijackers. Several friends of the 29-year-old Mehanna are expected to testify for the prosecution.
