I interviewed with this department last year. I did not get the job, but all the panel members seemed very squared away.

I know someone who got on not long ago and loves it. Better than the department she got laid off from. Good luck to ALL who apply.

Hey Guardman, if the person posting thinks it's paradise, then to that person it's paradise. This is the second post I've read by you and so far, I can't say I'm ready to join your fan club, not that this fact should bother you or you should give two shits, but just for the record, there's a lot of us campus guys out here and some of us have good relations with the hiring powers that be and some how or another, we might conspire to save you the HELL of working at a college and allow you to head STRAIGHT to a muni job!:)

I'm hoping that Guardsman was trying to be sarcastic; however he went about it the wrong way seeing as he is NOOB and just came off looking like a tool.

Mit police see a great deal of action. As I said before guardsman a bad guy doesn't care if you a municipal or campus cop all he sees is a uniform.

UMass-Amherst has over 27,000 students enrolled 11,00 of them live on campus. Add their guests and townies passing through and it's bigger than many municipalities. They have K-9, mounted units, motorcycle units and bicycle units and they are well armed and have more officers then many municipal departments do.

Believe me when I say the alcohol and drug use combined with the poor judgement of college students provide plenty of action for the men and women that patrol that campus.

Action gets old after a few years, great pay and good bennies never gets old.

During my stint there, Northeastern's PD had and still has a pretty good amount of action i.e. shootings, robberies, drunks, stabbings etc.... More so than where I am now. Blanket statements like yours ("this is just college policing") come off as being (in the literal sense of the word) "IGNORANT" no pun intended. But if you don't know... you just don't know. Not every Muni PD is action packed and not every Univ PD is action packed. Its a matter of where you land.

    Guardsman...
Go away you, you must be Loyal's nephew or something!

    Couldn't have said it better.
Guardsman If your looking for action just beware what you wish for. You could get more "action" than you ever wanted.

I don't think Northeastern will EVER be a nice quiet place and your statement above is great. Just to add one thing, every job is what you make of it. I've said it before, if you go to work always pissed off, the job will suck. If you go and make the most of it, it'll be a good job and at the very least a damn paycheck with bennies.

PERFECTLY WORDED. I still respond to all of my calls, I still cruise by to back guys up, I still give that little extra now and then and I still love my job and do on occassion look for stuff. I monitor the local PDs, NOT to jump on their calls, but to know what to avoid (so as not to interfere with anything) or jump in if they need extra bodies.

With all that said, every shift I go through where I don't have to even USE the radio and no one else has to work is a BIG BONUS and a PAID VACATION! My attitude, sure, I may not have APPEARED to do a damn thing, but how many crimes didn't happen simply because I was there? I earned my money, even if it was almost like armed robbery and no, I will never turn in a dime because I didn't "EARN" it the way some think I should.
  19. Kilvinsky Will Work for Beer

One last addition to that last diatribe, as your body changes, so does your attitude toward action, TRUST me.

Sorry GuardHard, guess I'm not as picky as you wanting a municipal job only. I'd be damn near shitting my pants to get on MIT, or any department, for that matter. You have some damn nerve coming on here and throwing all these slurs around, but for all of our sakes, where do you currently work? For such a smartass, you don't talk much about your current job. What happen, your community college degree and work as a manure technician not leading you to greener pasteurs? Get a freaken clue man and get the hell out of here.

I'm happily employed at a university PD, and my community college degree has served me pretty well so far. Thank you for your interest in my affairs. But for the record I think you might have me confused with someone else.

there's a new member called "Guardsman" who considers campus officers nothing but security officers. I've seen you post before and I know
you don't spew that kind of jibber jabba.
