Bristol County Sheriff Thomas M. Hodgson has been found liable for violating inmates' constitutional rights in the latest ruling from a class action lawsuit filed against him 11 years ago.
The order by Suffolk County Superior Court Judge John C. Cratsley says Hodgson permitted overcrowding in the jails and "failed to take obvious steps" to address health risks posed by locking some inmates overnight in cells without toilets or sinks.
Cratsley's ruling does not address the issue of damages or the extent of Hodgson's liability in his official capacity as Bristol County sheriff. The ruling left open the possibility that damages could be decided at a later date.

I will sleep better at night knowing that the inmates are being protected by my tax dollars.

I could give two shits about how comfortable the inmates are. But maybe if the Sheriff spent less money on neato toys for outside the jail, he'd have a little more money to make the jail safe and compliant (for COs as well as inmates).
