So we're soon going to have a policy mandating wearing body armor (good thing) to keep receiving federal $$$. As part of this, we're being authorized to wear these exterior vest carriers pictured below, if we want. Otherwise it's the standard carrier. Aside from looking weird, does anyone here have experience wearing these as far as comfort, etc goes? Thanks.
Everyone is going to have to wear a vest? We'll see. Command staffs, Captains, inside personell, detail clerks, undercover assignments will all get exceptions. I have always worn my body armor...always, but I do think it's a personal choice which should be encouraged by the unions, police chief or command staff. Let's face it many cops don't wear their vest after a few years and a few extra pounds. Also many don't want to wear them when it's very hot outside or when they do details. The body armor that can be worn outside the standard uniform shirt is much more user friendly but it does reveal to the bad guy that you have it on and he may take a head/throat /neck shot. You can bet that if this does pass and a cop is killed in the line of duty without body armor it will allow the city or town to deny benefits to survivors. Maybe I am just suspicious of any mandate that is attached to fed money...just my take on it.
One of the local agencies around where I work wears those Bloodhound, and to be honest I didn't notice the difference right away...at night that is
That's what the sales guy claims, that unless you're really looking, most people won't notice. We'll see. And the first thing I thought of was the guy from Reno 911 haha.
Alot of agencies down south wear outer carriers. Most of then are the tactical style with all the pockets, etc. Very practical though. My friends department has the option to wear a typical concealed armor or the tactical outer carrier. Most choose the outer carrier.
