They do. I get on planes wearing flame retardant pants and leg irons with cooking tongs in my pockets all the time.
I don't see any nail files, box cutters, or liquids over 3 oz....just what was the threat exactly? That must have to been one sharp TSA agent! I bet he photoshopped and printed up his own commendation already.
It was checked baggage, not carry-on...last I knew you could carry pointed sticks, body bags and leg irons in checked baggage. Hell, you can even carry a gun in checked baggage as long as it's declared and packaged properly. As far as I can tell the only "hazardous" item in there was the single smoke bomb which from the looks of it was barely a pyrotechnic. Talk about sensationalism.
