What I've always found most frightening about Terror at Beslan was that, from the terrorists' perspective, it was a failure: the author believes that the plan was to seize both the school and a group of politicians at the same time, then force Russian officials to choose which group to bargain for--the kids, or the politcos. Imagine terrorists seizing a school and the State House at the same time--what a nightmare that would be!

Actually it isn't; they can have the statehouse and everyone in it, especially Coupe. They sh*t their pants they can sit in it.

As usual Killjoy, your response is rational, coherent, and organized... Damn you.

Anyhow, here is an article that pretty much supports what KJ said:

I went to Wrentham Outlets the other day. Parking lot security is great. One mall security truck on parking lot patrol. As far as mall security went in the mall complex. Nothing. I don't expect Paul Blart to save me, but he can be eyes and ears and move people out of the way. Example Richard Jewell (Olympic bombings). No mallwide camera system. No security guards or detail officers on foot patrols in the mall,A Wrentham PD detail patrolling the lot and dealing with traffic was about it. I would be more concerned about crime with punks then terrorism, but its still a realistic possability.

I do however give the mall developer credit with the lay out. Unlike WS associates who brought you greats like (The Shoppes at Blackstone Valley) with only one entrance/exit. Soon to be Millennium Place in Dedham. The one entrance/exit for vehicle traffic scares the heck out of me.

I also didn't have my firearm with me :mobile::pinch:

Yikes, I never go anywhere without a gun. The only exception is a commercial airliner. Unfortunately a lot us know all to well not only our various department's strong points, but also the issues our command staff is unwilling to address.

The one exception for me is when I'm going to be consuming alcohol. I don't like going out unarmed, but I also like to have a social life.

Trust me....if you saw me at the end of the M&G, you wouldn't have wanted me to be armed, either. :t:

    Re: Shotguns

The thing is, a few savages with AK's takes minimal planning in comparison to the sychronized hijacking of several airliners. Your run of the mill gangbanger has little diffuculty obtaining serious firepower, and it's not like the savages aren't financed by deep pockets. Maybe the shopping mall stuff isn't "spectacular" enough for them...who knows.

We have bred a nation of sheep, and sophisticated planning is not really a prerequisite to racking up a body count whether the bad guys are using guns, homemade explosives or sabotage. How difficult would it be for food products to be spiked somewhere along the production line? A handful of guys working at the Ben & Jerry's factory could manage that with ease. Rig timed explosives in the service areas of a shopping mall or hotel?

The more sophisticated terrorists realize that a large body count is not necessarily the best way to achieve their agenda. To make their victims (us) feel absolutely helpless and impotent has far more long reaching benefits for them than whipping a nation into a rage by mowing down a bunch of shoppers. A demonstration that they can reach anywhere, anytime with complete surprise is more effective than knocking down an airplane.

Unfortunately, only a miniscule fraction of our citizens are anywhere near prepared to react properly to something like this, and the majority of the remaining citizens will wind up causing more harm than good.

Kepp your eyes open and your powder dry, folks. Complacency kills.

The question is why hasn't it been done yet. Discussions with a MD at work who is also in the military (and has been to Israel) leads me to believe that the terrorists are waiting for us to become complacent. Then strike,it would be pathetically easily.

I believe that if this attack happens during the Obama administration, people will be willing to give up their freedoms so the government can protect them. Forget about learning to protect yourself. Even if this country has a war on U.S. Soil with terrorists (Israel as an example) the liberals will not allow us to arm ourselves with AR-15s like the Israelis do. The chaperons on field trips carry M-1s or M-14s. Being a society that works together to prevent terrorism Israeli style will never happen in this country. Even if this were to happen there would be some messed up electronic system that would make these firearms "safe guns", so safe that that they won't work when you need them.

Asshole AG Holder wants to take the AR-15s away from civilians because the mexicans are getting assault weapons (along with explosive bombs, and electric tasers).

Another area in which we are extremely vulnerable is our systems of mass transit. I can't believe that our trains and subways haven't been hit yet, with either explosives or with armed a$$holes firing shots at everyone.

It may happen, and I half expect it every day I sit on the train.

I just hope that there are a lot of armed citizens on my train so that the bad guys can get taken out as quickly as possible.
  14. JMody Special...

My guess is that they are waiting to get as many people into the country as they can. Then they will just activate them all at once and we will have mass chaos. God help us the day it happens. And god help the morons in D.C. when the fall out happens.

Concealed Carry does give a fighting chance. A better chance would be carrying an AR-15 with hollow points. All though complexities involved in this legally to do out of uniform would make it impossible.

It would be so nice though. Could you imagine how much crime would decrease? Everyone would be afraid to do anything for fear of getting shot by like 30 different people. Life would be great!
