POSITION: Police Officer

LOCATION: Duck, NC

SALARY: $29,589-$50,563. Starting salaries are adjusted based on experience, training and education. Employees receive a 5% increase at the successful completion of a probationary period. Holidays: 12 paid holidays per year; vacation: 96 hours/yr. increasing to 120 hrs after five years of service, and to 160 hours after 10 years of service; sick leave: 96 hrs per year; health insurance: town pays 10% employee coverage or 75% of family coverage.

REQUIREMENTS: Successful candidates must possess knowledge of police methods, practices, and procedures; excellent oral and written communications skills; ability to comprehend and carry out oral and written instructions; ability to deal professionally, courteously and fairly with the public; ability to analyze situations and to adopt quick, effective and reasonable courses of action with due regard to surrounding hazards and circumstances; proficiency in the use of firearms and operations of police vehicles; ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with associates and the general public; NC BLET or certification from a reciprocal state is required; NC driver’s license is required upon hiring; successful completion of background investigation and drug test are required; applications are kept on file for one year.
