The Carbon Motors car is the CV replacement. Production is expected to start in 2010 and I believe they have already received hundreds of presale orders. I have read a few articles about this vehicle/company.

Police Car for Police | Carbon Motors Corporation

The CEO, William Santana Li, is a former Ford executive. The E7 is solely designed for LE and will not be sold for any other purpose. Joe Citizen will not get these. The E7 has a life expectancy of around 250,000 miles, and if I recall correctly it comes to a complete stop from 60 mph to 0 in about 90 feet, although official specs say 125 ft. Even after the vehicles life is done, they cannot be auctioned off, they are returned, recycled and built into new machines (E7's). Cost clearly still remains to be seen, but here's what the company says:
Lower Cost of Ownership: The total cost of ownership – purchase price, equipment options, fuel, maintenance and lifespan – of the E7 leaves other models in the dust. With a durability specification target of 250,000 miles built to withstand the rigors of law enforcement, and with the fuel efficiency of a clean-burning diesel engine, operating costs will be remarkably lower.

Sheriffs are LE... they just have different duties. Since Sheriff's in just about every other state are LE focused, I highly doubt they'll tell Mass. Sheriff's no.

No I'm not a Deputy or corrections.. and I do believe the Sheriffs primary focus should be Corrections. But with that said too, various corrections agencies will have them as well. Whether you agree or not corrections, sheriffs etc are considered Law Enforcement, just different duties. They are public safety vehicles. More or less, you won't see Joe citizen or your local cab company driving them.

And yes, Campus PD's will see them...

Oh come on guys...Let's not start a pecking order who should get them..Let's just see what happens...jeez
  6. TRPDiesel MassCops Member

It is not a pecking order, it is who has the extra benjamins burning a hole in the pockets of their budgets...It is not the PD's
  7. robodope MassCops Member

Their not even on the market yet...And I would never buy a car out in it's first year..I don't care how much they back it up, it does a PD no good if they are in the shop...

I fuggin' love the G8's. The thing that pissed me off most about GM giving Pontiac its demise is that I won't be able to get my hands on a brand new G8 anymore.

You should open your wallet up and pick up a Caddy CTS-V... The milf in the commercial that asks if the car returns the favor when you turn it on has me sold.

Although most police cars are "large family sedans" in general. They have been substantially upgraded to handle the rigors of police work. Such as tranny cooler, oil cooler, more aggressive rear end, no center console, ballistic door panels etc. A standard civilian version of a charger, CV or impala cannot be hand with these options. A fire truck is just a mack truck with a pump on the back..nothing that special..a mail van is go cart with a box on theback. A police car is a car with an upgraded motor and suspension.

The Carbon Motors vehicle seems like over kill. I like the idea of the seats that fit a duty belt and the integrated MDT. However, its seems more like a SWAT vehicle than anything else with its radiation detectors, night vision, FLIR, etc. Def Items that are not usually needed for standard patrol operations.

This will be perfect for the new national community police force the Supreme Beign wants to create.

I have never seen a tranny that I thought was hot. I wouldn't cool one. Though I would consider icing one.

I think initially releasing it as a Pontiac was their biggest mistake. I understand they were trying to bring excitement back to the brand but after they FUBARd the GTO by making a car that performed so well look like a bloated cavalier nobody was going to put "excitement" and "pontiac" in the same sentance again. They should've released the G8 as a chevy caprice, charged $2,000 less for them and watch em fly off the lots.

As for the taurus not sure how much the drivetrain has changed from the 08s to the '10s but the '08 was booooooring...plus (in my humble opinion) cop cars should drive through the rear wheels.

then again who am I to talk I drive a lame ass accord

The "remade" GTO was a rebadged Holden Commodore (GM of Australia). The G8 is the same thing now, a rebadged Holden Commodore. I'd take one no matter what it was called.
  20. Big.G In Tactical Mode....

I don't understand why so many people feel that way. I thought they were really nice... To each their own, I guess.

The Chevy Caprice being sold overseas isn't appealing to me, especially the rear.

Now the Chevy Commodore is gorgeous. Looks just like the G8. Drop an LS9 in there and it would be good to go.

When I first saw the new Taurus, it was from the rear and thought it was a Chrysler. Not really a fan of it. The front is nice though. The powertrain is impressive. The direct injected V6 puts out over 350hp. Direct injection is the way of the future. I want to see how much power a V8 will make with direct injection.

Actually, the Holden version of the GTO was the Monaro.

I agree, what I was trying to say was when they brought the Commodore here as the pontiac G8 I think they would've had much more success if they sold it as the Chevy Caprice instead of pontiac G8...pontiac really hasn't been thought of as an exciting brand so even exciting cars like the g8 and GTO got sort of brushed under the carpet by the general public (and we all know how smart they are). I think they could have great success if they implimented rebadged commodores and monaros as chevys (caprice/nova even if they wanted to stay classic)

You are correct sir, as a car guy I am pissed that I let that one slip by me!

Police worry about demise of Crown Victoria

    Monday, September 28, 2009 Kalamazoo

    BY REX HALL JR.

KALAMAZOO -- For police agencies, the Ford Crown Victoria has been like an old friend -- dependable, always there.
So news that Ford Motor Co. plans to halt production of the sedan after 2011 worries local law enforcement leaders, who say they are worried about finding a suitable successor and about the potential costs of replacing equipment that has fit the ``Crown Vic'' year after year.
``It's unfortunate for us,'' Kalamazoo County Sheriff Richard Fuller said. ``The cage alone inside our Crown Vics is the same cage for the Crown Vic five years back, and that's an expensive piece of equipment ... The Crown Vic is dependable; they fit what we need.
``That's all going to go out the window when they switch to the Ford Taurus.''
The Taurus may be Ford's next police vehicle, according to an Aug. 28 report in the Detroit News, though the automaker has not officially announced a successor to the Crown Victoria.
In Lansing, where the Michigan State Police tests police vehicles, Lt. Keith Wilson said the Crown Victoria has been the car of choice among police agencies for the past several years because of its proven durability and serviceability.
Wilson, commander of the State Police's precision-driving unit, also said that until 2006, the Crown Victoria was the only police-rated vehicle with rear-wheel drive, often a preferred option for police.

He really needs a new ride!

I did some looking around and found a Taurus police package from 1991 and a bunch of car mod forums that have people showing off their Taurus SE's that have the police interceptor emblem, but no new Taurus info.
