I am currently on the list for the Boston Fire Dept. I scored a 9 band...which is the highest range of scores. I am 209 on the list. No one can tell me how many firefighters Boston hires a year, so I have no idea if I have a shot at BFD or not. Can anyone tell me if I have a shot or if they know Boston is hiring a lot??? I'm trying to get into an EMT program because I hear it helps. Any advice is appreciated!!
i have a partner that is #72 on the list. He's not expecting to make it on. there's another guy that's #6 on the list... due to the misc. politics of it, even he is hoping, but not holding his breath. in short: you're #209. they're looking for around 50. Relax. If you get it you get it. Over eager just sets you up for a let-down. I see those guys at work and they just seem miserable, bitter and mean for extended periods of time when they get too worked up and then don't get on. Speaking of: Last night I worked with one of the white guys that sued the city of Boston when they hired mostly minorities. Remember that thread guys? The outcome? BFD wound up having to let a bunch of the white guys on. The guy I worked with failed the physical though so he's still not on... (and very bitter) don't worry about a "trying" to do it. You have the money? They'll accept you. There is barely application to it. Paramedic it's more of a issue of finding a place with a slot.
