This seems to be a growing department. The college must be actually committed to it being around a few years. And the pay isn't bad!

The Berklee College of Music Public Safety Department is a professional police department servicing the Berklee College of Music community. All Department officers are sworn Special State Police Officers pursuant to Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 22, §63, and are also deputized by the Suffolk County Sheriff's Department. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Following are essential duties of a Berklee police officer:
- Provide a visible law enforcement presence designed to deter crime and encourage reporting of concerns to law enforcement through active patrol of the Berklee College of Music campus and surrounding environs.
- Preserve the public peace through providing emergency and non-emergency assistance, detection of crime, arrest and prosecution of criminal offenders.
- Conduct initial and follow up investigation, preserve evidence, and document activities and complaints/reports.
- Enforce College regulations.
- Engage in community policing designed to strengthen the relationship between the College and the populations it serves, and between the College and surrounding community.
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft Word and Outlook (or similar technologies).
- Ability to assess emergencies and develop effective courses of action under pressure.
- Ability to generate clear, detailed written work with little or no supervision.
- Ability to understand and adapt to the interpersonal dynamics and culture of an institution of higher education.
- Ability to effectively deliver training related to law enforcement and personal safety to stakeholders in the Berklee community.
- Ability to work flexible hours and schedules, in addition to exposure at times to various unusual climate conditions, and the ability to stand post for extended periods of time.
- Ability to pass an oral board interview and background examination
- Demonstrated capacity to develop and foster effective working relationships with individuals and organizations reflecting a broad range of identities, perspectives and experiences.
- At minimum, an associate degree (preferably in criminal justice or a related field strongly preferred) from an accredited college or university. Bachelor and graduate degrees preferred.
- Municipal training and current police officer certification through completion of full municipal or state police academy. (Individuals who possess current certification through completion of a special state police officer academy may be considered.)
- Eligibility for appointment as a special state police officer pursuant to Mass. Gen. Laws c. 22, §63.
- Minimum of five years' experience in service as a police officer to a municipality or state law enforcement agency. (Experience policing in a college or university department is highly desirable.)
- A valid Massachusetts motor vehicle operator's license.
- Eligibility to possess a Class A license to carry firearms in accordance with Mass. Gen. Laws c. 140, §131.
- Knowledge of police practices and investigative procedures, criminal law, and criminal court procedure.
- Physical demands are those in excess for sedentary work; must be able to remain on feet for extended periods of time, stoop, kneel, crouch, lift, carry, push, pull, climb stairs, balance, walk, and run; must be able to access all facilities, on foot, to respond to emergency calls for service to included the upper-most floors of campus buildings when elevators are not available; must be able to conduct visual surveillance of individuals and surroundings.
