They go home at 2:00am, not a 24-7 department o_O. They do have a large turnover rate and a difficult time filling their open positions. They're expecting their entire current command staff to be retiring over the next 3yrs. Massive hiring push right now for new troopers. Historically MA applicants who are hired by the VSP work here a few years, gain training and experience then return home for other police opportunities.

That's too bad because on paper it looks like a nice job.

Maybe they should consider retreads. Older guys that took an early retirement from another PD looking for a slower pace of life and not really worried about the money.

Although knowing the state police I'm sure they want young candidates that they can mold in their own image

Still couldn't hurt to try it out ;)

So, are all of you telling me that "Super Troopers" is a work of FICTION!?!? Well, that does it. I can't watch that movie any more.

The VT academy is a live-in 16 week academy and is accepted by MA. All departments go thru the same academy in VT; State Police, Sheriffs, Police and Constables. The state police have a 3 week pre-basic portion of the academy that other agencies do not attend, which I believe is the only difference in training. Overall they are a good agency, very prideful. I would say they are the 2nd best agency in the state ;)
