Wareham Seasonal

Hello all,

I’m wondering if anyone here has any insight into the Wareham seasonal program. I’ve passed in the application and have had an interview with two of the Lieutenants from the department, and was given the run down of what is expected of the seasonal officer in regards to schedule and equipment. I was given the background packet and have handed that in along with all the necessary paperwork. I’m wondering how many officers have they hired in the past and what is expected of them during the time they are with the department? (Yes, I’ve never been a reserve and I do want to get the most I can out of this experience if given the chance to because this is the career field I want to work in.) Any and all information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Good luck, they are hard to work for and you need to know someone most of the time to get on. I work in the town next door as a dispatcher and talk to a lot of the officers. They are a very good department to work for if oyu can get on, lots and lots of calls. Calls range from shoots and stabbings to a lot of 209A violations.

You DO NOT need to 'know someone" to be hired as a Seasonal Officer in Wareham. It is hard enough finding someone that has the reserve/intermittent academy and who can pass a background investigation.

There are plenty of calls to answer in Wareham but usually only the seasonal officers assigned to bike patrol have the ability to respond. If you are walking a beat your response capability is very limited.

The full-time officers in Wareham are very dedicated and hard working. My advice to any seasonal officer would be to keep a low profile, don't be a cowboy, and watch and learn.

Thanks for the info. And yes I do plan on keeping my eyes and ears open and my mouth shut. Yes, by then I will have compleated the reserve academy. But, I will know nothing as compared to the officers with that department and will do what I am asked of and learn as much as possible from all of the officers I may be working with. Now just time to wait for the background check...

I know this is probably reching you late but I figured I would tell you alittle. You don't need to know anyone on the dept in order to get on. I am going on my 3rd year as a seasonal there and I didn't know anyone on Wareham's force to get my ass in there. Just had a good record, a will to learn and alittle common sense. Like the other guy said, we dont do much on foot patrol, though bike patrol does get alittle more action, mainly backing up the cruiser guys in the area. Don't be a hero! No one there is fond of that and you will get S*** on if you are. Your more likely to get "spoken" to if you are trying to go way more above than what you are experienced with. Just do as your told and make your presence known and you will be fine. Hope that helps.
