Does anyone know if HUPD is hiring anyone for this year? I have heard that they do not administer a test? What is the hiring process like? If anyone has any info, i would be appreciative.

Posted by: JP64

From what I've seen, you should just watch for an opening on the University website, and then you apply as instructed. They also keep applicant info on file for awhile, but your safest bet is to keep an eye on the ads. Good luck.

Posted by: hupd451

Right now we have 5 in the MBTA Academy and as far as I know they probably will not be hiring for awhile. Send your resume' so they have it on file and when future openings are available they will contact you for an interview.

Posted by: union1

Just an FYI about sending a Resume to Harvard. I did it and they sent it back. Their letter stated that they do not accept resumes any longer for non-open positions.

Posted by: hupd451

Whi did you send it to Harvard or the Police Department?

Posted by: Mitpo62

Just posted on 4/29/05: HUPD is looking for police officers. Check it out!

Posted by: trel

Posted by: Mitpo62

You've convinced me. The paperwork is in the mail. Keep it on the QT!

Posted by: Xyr_gt

i applied too seeing how have little experience i doubt ill get a call but atleast im trying.

its so hard to get experience when no one is willing to give you it.

Posted by: dsm290

Hey hupd451, I have an interview coming up this wednesday (5/25/05) at HUPD. Could you tell me how the interview process is set up. How many are on the interview board?, what questions or scenarios they might ask me? What can I expect? Is it like a regular Police interview or is it more relaxed? Could you give me a few pointers to better prepare myself. Thanks alot.

~dsm290

Posted by: bap27

When did you get the call? I sent in my resume and application last week and haven't heard a thing a yet. I hope with 5 spots that I at least get a seat at the interview.

Posted by: Mitpo62

Me too Bap, so I sent an inquire about my paperwork. HR replied by stating that my paperwork was never received. In addition to that "sorry" was another stating that "due to the overwhelming response, we are no longer accepting applications/resumes." Isn't that just ducky?

Posted by: ponyboy

I also would like to know when they contacted you for an interview. I sent an application, but have yet to hear anything.

Posted by: dsm290

Sorry guys, maybe I should not have said anything. I was inquiring about the Interview and it's process. Good luck to all of you.

Posted by: hupd451

dsm290,
PM me and I will try and give you some help.

Posted by: 57ragus

hupd451,

you work for reagan at harvard?

Posted by: hupd451

Yes, he is the Chief of Staff/Captain of the Patrol Division.

Posted by: 57ragus

how is he to work for? he was my football coach in college. i thought he was a great guy.......

Posted by: stadinko

eye in the sky reports that the interview can be a bit grueling, and if you are from a police rather than security background they really delve to see if you will be able to acclimate to their environment...impression was a softer hand was preferred. Sounds right considering. Take it for what it's worth, not first hand info.

Posted by: Mitpo62

More importantly, how can they possibly lose one's paperwork. Then to say, well "sorry" no more apps/resumes are being accepted. That's just wrong.

Posted by: ponyboy

How Big is their department?

Posted by: ponyboy

Hey DSM how was the interview with Harvard?

Posted by: dsm290

The interview wasn't too bad, I was nervous of course. I think I did OK, they are really into community policing. I won't hear anything for another month or so since they are interviewing over 100 applicants. We'll see what happens, if anything it was a good learning tool for police interviews.

Posted by: motivated

DSM, Hope you get the job and I hope I can snag one of the other openings. Since I am only R/I academy qualified I doubt it. Good Luck to all.

Posted by: campuspdchic

Hey DSM, I have an interview at Harvard next week. Anything you can tell me about the interview? Send me a PM...Thanks

Posted by: Mitpo62

*sigh*...........well, at least you got the interview. My phone never rang. Anyone for some pity stew....??

Posted by: Mikey682

I'll have a bowl. I cant say I'm a big fan of applying online if I dont have the option of mail in my resume and packet or drop it off in person.

Oh MANN!!!!!!!!!

=D>

Posted by: bap27

Well, I got the letter today stating that my 4 years on the street as a full time cop, year and a half in the jail and 11 years Marine Corps experience are not a match for what they are looking for!!!!

Anyone know what’s up with HUPD?

Posted by: robodope

Maybe it was the year and half you did in jail..What did you get convicted of?

lol..jk...I wouldn't take offense bro, I believe you truly have to know someone to get that job..very political...

Posted by: mpd61

RIGHT-ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Very few exceptions to above rule. If any of you folks out here actually think you can just walk into Harvard/BC/BU/Tufts/MIT/ and the other private schools that have and make good $$$$$, without having an inside hook, YOU'RE INSANE!!!!!!

I wish everyone well in bettering themselves, yet many people need to give up the ghost on these banterings

Posted by: Mitpo62

Well said MPD and very true. Between the two recent hirings at Harvard and BC there were thousands who applied. Without the hook you're out, experienced or not. Got my "dear john" letter!

Posted by: Mikey682

I got my letter too.

Posted by: dsm290

The interview went very well I thought. I'm just waiting to hear back from them. They just asked some basic quality questions, no scenarios. They said that it would take a while due to the amount of applicants that applied. I'm really keeping my fingers crossed. Good luck to anyone that applied to Harvard University police Department.

Harvard University CAMPUS Police is correct name

Posted by: Jasper

in retrospect, I should explain... personally, I'm not into splitting hairs - above was a private jab at someone I know who frequents this site that gets very annoyed at college and university officers that work in his city - sometimes they try to get authority to stop cars on public roads around the campus...no offense intended - just poking fun at someone that makes a big deal out of such things - he can take it

Posted by: motivated

Got a letter from HUPD today. It was not a good one. At least I know where I stand. Good Luck to all.

I interviewed with HUPD about two and a half years ago. I thought the interview went well. I got a letter in the mail about a month later stating that they were very impressed with the interview and my qualifications BUT they were not able to hire anybody due to a hiring freeze. This is the bizarre part, in the letter it stated something to the effect that I should be hearing from them in terms of an offer of employment sometime in the future. I called the woman in charge of HR who is not there now, and she confirmed the freeze but said she would call or send a letter when they are able to hire. Never heard from her. I called about a half year later and some other woman took her spot, said yup...hiring freeze....we'll get in touch with you...blah blah blah. Last I heard they sent a bunch to the T Academy..... probably within months of the last call I made.
Not that I care now since I got hired FT for a municipality since then. I just thought it was pretty weird that they sent out a positive letter but never got back to me. The ironic part is that I just got a post card in the mail from HUPD asking me to call them to reinterview about 2 months ago I am assuming for this past round of interviews. Of course, I declined the chance to interview.

A friend of mine who saw the letter I received just a got a letter with that BS about "not what theyre looking for...." Full Time Academy Trained, lots of College Cop experience and then some.... He was never even granted an interview! Very Very Bizarre.

I rest my case!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Make a large donation to a fund! We have guys at BMC/BUMC we are BU employees with Master degrees, and Campus acedmies but for some reason BUPD will NOT I say again NOT hire anyone from our Public safety department....
If you are not in the "club" so to speak good luck trying to get on
Harvard/BC/BU/Tufts/MIT I bet daddy or mommy have to be on the payroll or a board member.

Posted by: mpd61

I rest my case....AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: BMC324

Check out boston.com about the X-BU cop suing the Department... it is also on this site tooo......... Now U will see Y they won't hire any of us..

Posted by: ponyboy

Anybody here get a call for a 2nd interview?

Posted by: dsm290

I'm still waiting to hear from HUPD, I received an e-mail a few weeks ago stating that the hiring comittee was having some scheduling issues and they expect to continue the hiring processes by the middle of July. I have already had one interview, but nothing since. No letter either which is a good thing, depending which way you look at it.

Posted by: ponyboy

DSM,

I was in the same boat as you until today when I got my letter saying thanks but no thanks. Hope it works out for you. Good luck

Posted by: Mitpo62

Any updates on the new hires here? Are they still looking to hire 12 new police officers?

Posted by: dsm290

I got my letter last week from HUPD stating I was NOT selected for hire. Just my luck. First Lowell PD, now this.

Posted by: ride1620

My buddy is an officer for HU and he said they already knew who they were taking before they even put up the job announcement

Posted by: mpd61

Posted by: ponyboy

Did anybody posting here get selected.

Posted by: ponyboy

Ride1620,

You were withholding this information because......? It seems MPD61 has been correct all along.

Posted by: Skidaddy

I believe Ride1620 was right. They knew exactly who they wanted before they posted the openings. The person that referred me never told me who they went with, but I'm dying to find out who it was. And what they have that the rest of us don't. What a second, it's not what they have, but who they know.... I forgot...

mpd61 you were right all along.
Thanks for bring us all back to reality.

Posted by: clancy-dawg

Boy, I sure hope they abolish Civil Service soon, it's so.... unfair!

Posted by: ride1620

Ponyboy, I am new to the site and i just happened to see the post..and i never checked mpd61's intelligent posts

Posted by: ponyboy

Ride,

Nothing against you I foolishly thought I had a chance when I was called for the first interview.

Posted by: dsm290

Hey PonyBoy don't feel so bad, so didn't I when I interviewed the first time with HUPD. Then I either knew someone or met people who use to work or had some association with HUPD there and said they would put a good word in for me. I also met the Mayor of Cambridge, we spoke briefly and he said he would see what he could do for me. I see that he got me a letter saying I wasn't selected. So much for "Knowing someone". Did wonders for me. It's a bunch of B.S.

Posted by: Mitpo62

Seems to me that 12 new police officers is a whole lot of "somebodys" knowing "someone".

Posted by: dsm290

12??, When I interviewed, I heard they were hiring only 5 Officers. What gives?

Posted by: ponyboy

They posted 5,but somewhere in the process they decided to hire 12. Prior to getting my letter I was psyched to hear that. I just didn't have the juice

Posted by: Skidaddy

I know they were looking for more females. I don't know where this 12 officer thing came from but I know they said they wanted to hire 2 or 3 females from the original posting of 5.

Posted by: ponyboy

I heard the same thing about wanting females. Oh well maybe next time. What can you do.

Posted by: Skidaddy

Don't worry. The scores from the civil circus test are coming out soon....

Posted by: soxrock75

I heard from a member of the department today, that the number of new hires is somewhere near 15..........geesh!

Posted by: dsm290

Nothing like Political BS eh?

Posted by: Skidaddy

YUP

Posted by: ponyboy

15 and still no call for me? DOH!

Posted by: Macop

Skidaddy wrote
